haha! I've actually had luck in a prior life with a similar scenario but it'd be easy for them to prove the lift caused the bearing to fail in that case... though if you swapped back out the suspension to stock before you took it in...

I would say that so far even with the 1.02 I flashed, that this is worth every penny. You'll just have to be patient, though. I ordered mine at an awkward time where 1.03 is still waiting to come out. If you notice any issues with the driveability or power of your truck you will want to get it. It's noticeable and better than just some of the cheaper shift changing products that are out there (which I have tried). Don't waste your money on cheaper alternatives, as this is the fix. Warranty does not seem to be a problem.

Wasn't someone saying that Toyota is catching on with this tune that is why the 2018 ECU is a little different and that OVtune had to include additional locking of his tune?

I believe Toyota left some meat on the table of the ecu map for reliability and for mid gen engine tune up for more hp for future marketing.

Possible though given OVTune is the only fully working tune for these trucks and at most he's sold a few hundred of them at this point, that's a TINY fraction of overall sales so i'd be surprised if it was on the list of top things for them to worry about right now. Interested in hearing any reports on this though.

My assumption was that OVTune was simply protecting his intellectual property to ensure that another tuner doesn't steal his IP and pass as their own...

Yea, I’m definitely going to wait for 1.03. From what I have read from everyone is that this is a must.

no question - dating back to my first tune file which was a few versions back (1.01b) it was worth the price and has only gotten better since then. my truck may have been abnormal for whatever reason but it drove miserably stock for my tastes. the tunes just get better and better

Eh well 1.03 is going to release this week. The process to order and get the dongle takes a while. Once you get the dongle, the software is going to let you download 1.03 by then. Also any future upgrades are covered in the purchase. In other words, as far as I can tell, if you order now, 1.03 will release before you will get your dongle. The software process by then will be very much more streamlined. So it's really already go time if you want to get the ball rolling.

The 2018 Tacoma has all the additional safety components not available in the previous years added. I would also assume the 2018 has all the ECU revisions in addition to that.
Toyota has its head to far up its ass to catch on. Just look at the recent joke of a presentation that Toyota gave on the “new” TRD Pro’s.

even if all of mats sales were for the 2016+ Tacoma, I'm order 2436... that's 2436 Tacoma's NATION WIDE that have the tune (and granted some like me still don't have it as we are pre-orders)... a quick google search says that in 2016 191,631 tacoma's were sold... and another 198,124 in 2017... that's 389755 Tacoma's not including the 2018's... that's basically .5%. no way they're changing anything for that... hell they don't even do safety recalls for that low a number

This thread - such good memories... guess the alpha thread is the AT thread anyhow!

To be honest, alpha thread should probably be locked. It’s no longer alpha. I would consider 1.02C to be a beta and 1.03 to be full release.

Agree - 1.03 has been pretty awesome so far. I’m hypersensitive to this damn transmission and he has made some huge strides in understanding and manipulating the complex load management of this truck including shifting and smarter use of the torque converter... next step will be to drive it for a few hundred miles in D and see whether any remnants of learning are remaining. If not, I’m satisfied

Anyone who ran 1.02 and now 1.03 notice any change in mpg? I've noticed that when I was running 1.02c 91 o would get 19mpg on the highway but only able to use 5th. I changed the gears from 3.9 to 4.3 and now I'm on 1.03 87 and I get 17 when it's cold and when it's warm I see about 18-19 but I sit in 6th and only go into 5th on hills.

He isn' the ignoring you, he answers as quick as he can. He always gets swamped after a release. I would rather wait for an answer from the dev than a canned response from a hired hand
