I know this thread is almost a year old but seeing that scrape in fins n' things...I did the same thing when my truck was stock and it made me cringe the entire way down! Bent my trailer harness bracket, but didn't destroy it .

Trying to figure out if that is diff fluid or a sh*t stain on that obstacle...

    Maybe a little of both?

Seriously though...glad you had a good first experience in Moab.

Red rock/slickrock can be addictive, and your "sampling" of the terra firma with your rec hitch is either the beginning or the end of your mod infection.

As others have listed, Potash/Shafer Switchies/Gemini Bridges are all good stock capable runs.

We ran up La Sal Pass in the summer of '16 and ran into an impassable snow bank at 9,200'

    IMG_2974.jpg

But the day trip was awesome, and well worth seeing the quaking Aspens and running water up and down the trail.

    We are not alone...

I just got back from Moab a few weeks ago. I asked around on reddit about trails. Fins n' things was one of the most recommended. But, as the OP here found out, bone stock is no bueno. Its the bumper clearance on 3-4 obstacles that would give you some damage. Going solo on it would be pretty intimidating. I am impressed he forged on through the half he did. Mine has a 2" lift and I didn't have any real issues, but the hitch drug in a couple of spots, just like OP. But, if you have a mildly modified truck (sliders are going to save you a lot of terror) then this trail is amazing and fun.

We also hit Klondike trail and I hated it. It was listed in my book as easy/moderate. Man that book was wrong. Nothing super technical, just a rough, craggy, narrow trail. There were some spots that were washed out and really tight corners that were tough with the length of the truck. We ended up finding an alternate trail off the bluff and down into arches. There was a section of decent on that trail that was pretty gnarly, but it was a lot of fun. Shaffer road is amazing. I'm going to head back again next year for another week. If you ever get the chance to go, its totally worth it. Amazing places to see and lots of really cool stuff do if you're into hiking, biking or photography.

Skid is a nice idea but my trailer plug bracket was destroyed as it hangs lower than that skid.

A new bumper is a better idea.:hattip::bananadance::fingerscrossed::bowdown:

Planning on making this trip in late Feb, 2019 with my locked pre runner. I'm a bit worried about snow. Not to much in Moab itself but all the plains states from Indiana over to Colorado. I think you have to take big bear over the mountain from there and a bit worried about that.

Sorry. I think it's black bear pass.
My locked prerunner doesn't do snow. It handles everything else fine.
