I want to go test drive a 4.0 just to see how is. Lol I used to own one also and I like the 3.5 better now (MT though).

It seems like a little pedal goes a long way for city driving. Particularly around a corner. Drives off the corner awesome. But you can tap into it when needed and not bad for a V6.

Once you get used to the fact that it's got no nuts in lower rpms then you'll fine

My last Toyota was a 4 cylinder Camry. I traded it in on the Tacoma and had to drive 400 miles to get it home. I thought I was in heaven until I read theses forums and found out what a piece of junk it was. Seriously though, I never use the ECT button and don't have a problem with it at all. I don't know if they corrected the problem by the time my '17 was made or what. Anyway, I love my Taco.

Took my tranny several thousand miles and a TSB to stop acting like a spastic drunk, but right now I love my truck. The power was never an issue for me, just the constant gear-hunting.

I had an auto and hated it's shiftiness, especially the bog. Traded for a MT and did OVTune and I'm loving it. OVTune is also working with a turbo maker, so we may have our own 3.5T before long. That will be awesome! My brother has an F150, and it is just too big - especially as I live in a big city.

Exactly. These two trucks aren't even playing the same game.

I agree, and they aren't even the same sized truck category. I was just trying to give a different point of view for people who might be lurking here thinking about a tacoma and are coming from a newer model f-150. There is alot on here that might scare away a potential owner, and I don't think they have anything to fear. Well, as long as they acknowledge they are dropping a weight class and are realistic about that.

I came from a ‘15 3.5 Ecoboost as well, I sure miss that Sport mode, it has lots of power and very roomy it just always stayed in the shop with on going vibration problems.

Knowing about the transmission issues I took the dive anyway bc I was fed up with Ford and I wanted something more reliable, so far so good the tranny is just something you to get used to learning it’s sweet spots (if you ever can) I’m am finding myself using ECT more often lately and it definetly enhances the overal feel of driving the truck, like that should be the “normal” driving programming on the tranny

The wife got a ‘17 4runner and it drives great too.

I went the other way, from the Taco to the F!50 with a 2.7. You right, they are not fair comparison.

Ecoboost engines are ridiculous. Almost instant torque. I can't imagine what a Raptor feels like. But the Tacoma does what I need it to do. Not regrets with the Toyota 3.5.

I am intrigued at the smaller 2.3L Ecoboost in the Ranger. That should perform very well, if it's anything like the 2.7L Ecoboost.

I'm trading in my 2011 Ford F150 with the ecoboost for a 2018 TRD Sport DC. My ecoboost is getting about 12.1mpg and that is with mid grade fuel. It's a great truck for pulling, but when I pull my boat (about 3800lbs), I get about 9.5 mpg.

I have a 2017 DCLB Taco and am very happy with it, especially off road. I drive a Ford with an eco boost motor for work. I will say this, the ecoboost motor has some serious balls. The mpg is pretty bad. I average anywhere from 7-10 mpg depending on how I drive it. My taco gets 17-20 depending on driving conditions.

The only thing I do not like about my taco is when on the freeway between 70-80 mph it really hunts for the right gear. All in all I love this truck!

Having also came out of a 3.5 eco boost I can tell you all day I liked coming from that powertrain to this. You have to be hard on this truck to get it to move. I hate having the motor screaming around 3500 rpm just to try and pass a old lady driving a civic or something. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but maybe if I didn’t get about the same mpg as I got with my eco boost I wouldn’t hate it as much. I miss my f150 a lot. Loved the size and power. However getting a divorce I needed to make some cut backs. Not sure how long I’ll stay in this Tacoma. One thing that it beats the f150 in, is retaining some value

Happy and content with the Taco, but my other vehicle is a tuned SHO... and there is no comparison. That thing goes like a stabbed rat.
