Solo improves and machines a Tundra rack to fit a Tacoma, but it needs a good deal of fabrication to install and isn't cheap.

The killer was I went 2.5 hours and ~12 miles with no problems. Got to the last 50 feet before civilization and asphalt, and came to some stream that overtook the dirt road. The water stretch wasn't that long, I shoulda just went for it and winched out if I got stuck. But something just looked off, like maybe it was dug up on purpose or something might've been tossed in the hole, so I went for the barely used bypass instead. Got through the mud, crossed the small water patch and more mud fine. But I got a little antsy on the sharp turn for the trees and botched the approach angle trying to get through. Stopped to adjust, and that's when I ended up rubbing up and leaning on the tree.

Thanks for the window tip! This is the stuff I'm normally too dense to think of. I actually cracked the windows this morning (not thinking at all, as just mentioned) and when I let go I heard a pop in the door and the sound of the glass starting to get wedged just as the motor came to a stop. I guess I stopped just in time by luck, it rolled back up fine. I put painters tape on the button until the door's fixed. :)

Looking into it. I think the shape and size is right on the border of that not working, but we'll see. I'm off for a few days coming up, so hope to figure it out by then.

That might actually work out real nice. Thanks for the idea. I'll have to think about the work/cost trade-off versus other options. I'm in a lazier-than-usual mood lately, been a rough few months. :bananadead:

Yea, it's got me revisiting that topic again... Went with step bars the first time because I like the look better and don't have plans to go hard on the truck as long as it's my daily driver. Figured they'll tolerate some mild bumps and even if I wreck them somehow (though this time should be salvageable), they're way cheaper than sliders so not a big loss. But not against the move to sliders when I start doing dumber things.

Very accurate, the couple times i went there was a waste of a drive. Every single thing seemed overpriced, didnt buy so much as a d-ring.

Over priced or more expensive than the internet? Costs a lot of money to have a building and staff like they do.

You just answered your own question, overpriced. It costs a lot of money to have a building, Jeeps, and a staff like they do. Then the just turn around and markup the stuff they sell so the customers can foot the bill.

I’m curious to know what they consider “a good deal of fabrication”...”

Most of thier margin dollars comes from service. The parts are just an add on. That’s why they have the building.

Yea they “add on” to the prices of parts and service so they can have a super nice shop and still build ruff country catalogue bolt on special Jeeps they don’t know how to use. Idk how to read you. Your one post you say that they are your buddies and give you great deals and in the very same post you say you won’t have them put a snorkel on your truck because of how expensive they are:notsure:

    Here's a little look into what's needed...

If you guys do a search "solo rack" in the LT Tread you'll find a decent amount of conversation.

I tried to get the snorkel through them over the summer. a younger kid at the counter quoted me 630, told them everyone else has it for 525, I was told to go buy it from "everyone else".

they didnt have any sort of deals on arb compressors when i was in there.

It requires widening the mounting holes on the frame to support the wider bolt pattern on the tundra rack. Not a huge challenge, but it's going to be a pain in the ass getting in there.

The bad news is they are 1500$.

The good deal I got was just a Black Friday deal. I do think they are expensive for service but I also think whatever you have them do will be done right.

That’s a lot of cheddar for a steering rack...
Drilling out the new mounting holes into the frame would not be a big deal provided you can do it from the bottom up. I’m wondering what else they do to that rack from a tundra to make it that much?

They send it out to get rebuilt with aircraft quality seals and such.
