Not sure what is going on but I experience a slight bump from behind when i am coming to a full stop or releasing the brakes from a stop. It is almost like someone is bumping my rear bumper. Anything would help, very irritating. Thanks

Mines done this since new, pretty sure it's axle wrap. It got better with the +1 leaf pack but not much better.

I’ve read that it seems to be axle wrap. Fixes would possibly be AAL (Add A Leaf) or traction bars. Thoughts.?

Add any leafs and you might be chasing other vibes....

From a dead stop I just let the truck roll for a second before I give it gas and you won't notice the bump. Lots of annoying stuff with these trucks you just need to forget about.

Will this problem lead to others in the future.? I'm looking at Traction bars, wondering if it is worth it or not.

Grease the yoke at the rear differential, that should mellow it out for a bit. The weak leaf springs tend to accentuate the "bump" you feel.

My '03 double cab 4x4 does it. To minimize feeling it, I try to slow down gradually coming to a stop, and most of the time it doesn't happen when I do it that way. Sometimes, it will bump when I take off if it didn't bump at the stop. Hopefully, it doesn't get worse.

Does anyone know if the remedy for this issue would be installing traction bars.?

Like post 9 says...grease the splines at the transmission tailshaft. Use Motorcraft PTFE Lubricant. Caused by weak leaf springs creating axle wrap.

I've got some Dakar leafs up for grabs. $25 if you can pick up in Colorado Springs.

Check u-joints and carrier bearing also. Bumping feeling when taking off sounds like carrie bearing....

Are you sure you didn't leave your dog leashed to the bumper?

It’s a feature in our trucks to make sure your don’t fall asleep behind the wheel. It ranks up there with the other features in our trucks such as lack of power ( so we don’t speed), poor gas mileage ( so we drive more efficiently - no jack rabbit starts) and frame rust ( so we don’t drive on road that may have recently been icy ). Also in the 2012+ years they got in a limp mode feature so you get to meet with your friendly tow truck driver and dealer to establish a good relationship. It’s called the “Friend finder”

Also adjust your rear brakes. If they do not engage enough, the engine will continue to drive the rear wheels putting forward tension on the rear axle. With the front brakes holding the tires the entire driveline is then under tension like a bow. When you release the "front" brakes, everything relaxes and you get the bump.

    Wow

I can't believe we've had all these posts about brakes and leaf springs.

There are several threads on this very issue. Most have solved it by.....wait for it.....

...topping off the automatic transmission fluid.

What you're feeling is your truck shifting out of gear at the wrong time, because the transmission is low.

Waiting for the OP to say he has a manual transmission and it was indeed a dog.

Mine is a manual and I experienced axle wrap a lot before going to Dakar springs. It was never anything like OP described.
