Noob here... If I am going to stick with 265/70 but going to go from a 16 to a 17 inch wheel, is the only dramatic change going to be the sidewall or am I going to lose MPG and ride quality as well? I have an OR with p-rated tires as of now and pro 4runner wheels sitting in my garage.

    a lot
17 have more choices of tires so you could have a lighter C rated tire than a E rated in a 16 so MPG shouldn't suffer.

I never tried a 17 but I'm sure it's not too much difference in ride quality. I'm sure someone will chime in.

    You should be fine.

I've been running 265/70/17 Nitto TGs for 2 years, average 20-22 mpgs on my daily 40 round trip commute in my lifted OR if I keep it around 60-65 mph.

If you run a more aggressive or heavier tire you might have different results.

You’ll be fine to make the switch. Ride quality and MPG are more dependent on tire selection more so than wheel size.

    265/70/R16 = 30.6"
    265/70/R17 = 31.6"

There are a few things here to consider. Your speedo and odometer will be under, so the MPG will appear to be worse until you adjust it. From my experience a 1" tire diameter isn't going to kill your MPG unless it is substantially heavier like moving to an "E" rated tire. The only con I've found about moving to a larger wheel size is less sidewall for airing down. Some might say otherwise, but 1" of wheel isn't going to make or break you.

I switched to a 17" wheel so I can run a big brake kit. You can do the Tundra brake upgrade mod with a 16", but I'm not sure how much that gets you. Most folks say 17" wheels have a greater supply of tires, but I ran duratracs on my 16" alloys and never had issues finding them.

Ride quality won't really be noticeable unless you switch to a stiffer tire.

I'd go with whichever you think looks the best.

Speedometer difference will depend on how accurate your are at stock tire size from the factory. Some people find they're more accurate going plus 1 size when compared to GPS speed over ground.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I agree ---I went to P265/65/17, from stock OEM P245/70/16. According to my garmin my speedo actually got more accurate. These two sizes are essentially the same height?. Nice thing is the ride got smoother and quieter going from the Firestone Destination to the Yokahama Geolander GO15's

I am thinking of doing the same, mainly because KO2's are only available in LR E in 265/75/16. Less offset on 4Runner rims is appealing as well.

    Like, so many.
I do the same. You won't notice a ride difference.

Do you plan on getting rid of the 4Runner pro wheels?

Yep, this has NEVER been discussed before.

Welcome OP, but you might want to look around the forum with a search before asking a "Done to Death" question. Lots of good info here. Basically Most ALL questions about 3rd Gens have been asked and answered. Very little changes from the 16's to the 18's except for a few more goodies on the new ones.

If I decide to stay with 16s I will get rid of them.
