Front Differential & T-Case Breathers

Hello TW,

I have a quick question pertaining to the location of the front differential and T-case breathers on my 2016 TRD OR. I will be doing the diff-breather mod on the rear diff shortly, but I am wondering if the diff breathers on the front diff and T-case are just a one way valve on the case just like the rear diff, or are they remotely located in the engine bay?

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. If they are located on the case of the front diff and T-case, then I may get the ARB breather kit and route them all into the engine bay.

The front differential and transmission already have 'remote' breathers. You can find them in the engine bay, on the driver's side, near the frame rail. They are fairly high already, but could easily be extended to an ARB type breather.
It is the rear diff. and the transfer case that have the breather right on the housing and need the most immediate help.

I have the ARB breather mounted just under the hood on the driver's side of the engine bay. Currently, I only have the rear diff. routed to it, but the plan is to connect all 4 gear cases to it.

Remember to use two way valves for any mods; otherwise it will still create a vaccum.

Splitbolt - It seems that the front-diff and transmission have remote breathers on them already as mentioned by MJ_PDX. It's the rear diff and the rear differential that will need to be routed to two-way breather system. The ARB breather system is a 2-way valve that has multiple inputs. It's a pretty slick setup.

Is this what you were referring to when you mentioned the transmission? Depending on how high the remote breathers for the front diff and transmission are up, I may not do anything with those, but I will route the rear diff and transfer case to a ARB breather system that I plan on mounting in the bed cubby.

 

To clarify Splitbolt's point, even though the front diff. and transmission already have raised 'remote' breathers on them, they still use the same 1-way valves that are on the rear diff. They will still close off and suck water past the seals when immersed...just like the rear diff. will.

If you're going to the trouble to install an ARB breather, you might consider running all 4 gear cases to it. At the very least you should be removing the 1-way valves for the front diff./trans and replacing with something to allow 2-way venting even if you don't extend them up higher or to your ARB breather.

On the driver's side down below the black plastic fuse box, between the frame and the engine. Something like this.

 

What's wrong with the breathers that come stock? Just did the rear and got a new oem breather... put it behind the fuel door. Doing the front tomorrow
