Does anyone know if one ceramic coating is better than the rest? I see they range from $30-$200 maybe even higher. Some advertise 3years others 5year protection. The finish looks great and the extra protection is appealing. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think you're going to find that asking which coating is the best is about as useful as asking which motor oil is the best or who the most beautiful woman is. Lots of opinions, but very little in hard facts. Truth be told, there are a lot of good coatings out there and sure, some are better than others. Then again, some application processes are better than others too. Even the best coating - applied incorrectly - will not work or last as it was designed to.

A good one you can't go wrong with is gTechnic either C1 or Crystal Serum Light. Gyeon Mohs is also a good one. Can't go wrong with either one and the purchase price is very reasonable.

Have you applied the crystal serum light? I read the instructions. Is it fairly easy to apply? I don’t have a garage so I may have to find. TW member in the area or have a shop do it. Recommends leaving in garage for 12hrs...that’s a long ass time. Haha

If you have never applied a ceramic do not start off with crystal serum light. Definitely not one of the user friendly coatings.

Optimum Glosscoat. Also, Wolfgang makes an easy to use coating.

I have CQuartz ready to go for my truck.

I would recommend heading over to Autogeek and researching the different coatings. Tons of info and products there

Yes I've applied it several times. It's pretty easy to apply. You just need to take your time and make sure you're using good microfiber towels as well. The difficult part is the polishing stage (if you need to do that). Just have good lighting so you don't end up with streaks after it's cured. Crystal Serum light will fully cure within the week unless you have UV lights to speed up the curing process. It does take a long ass time to fully cure but when it does it makes maintenance so much more easier.

Yeah especially considering the coating has to be sanded off. Not exactly what I call user friendly. Would not recommend for a first time coating installer.

I use this Duragloss kit and like it a lot. It's inexpensive and easy to use.
My paint is in good shape, so every 2 years I give the truck a thorough detail: wash, fallout remover, clay, light finish polish then an alcohol wipe down in preparation for the coating.

Then I apply and remove the squeeky clean surface prep( easy and quick to apply and remove).

I'll then apply the ceramic coating to two panels at a time. By the time the 2nd panel is coated the first panel has "flashed" dry and I'll lightly wipe over the coating with a microfiber cloth to smooth out any high spots (excess coating).

After the whole truck is coated, I'll apply a light (but thorough) second coat to ensure full coverage. I will also apply to wheel rims.

About 18 months in I'll notice the beading and sheeting properties of the coating start to fall off a bit and will apply some liquid wax to tide me over until i can find the time to recoat.

Truck looks great and is real slick to the touch. It sheds water and debris fantastically and is easy to maintain.

Check out the Autogeek forums... tons of info and helpful members.

    Following on my previous post:

During the good weather I wash and dry it once a week.
During winter, I'll run thru a touchless wash 2 or 3 times a month.

The coatings can be removed by compounding off. Gtechniq Crystal Serum Black will need to be sanded off. Those are not sold to the public unless one is an accredited and certified installer.

    Not according to GTechniq’s website

“Crystal Serum Light is the prosumer version of the world famous Gtechniq Accredited Detailer only Crystal Serum - a coating so hard that if applied incorrectly can only be removed by using 1,500 grit sand paper.“

They're saying the "Crystal Serum" needs to be sanded off. "Crystal Serum Light" can be compounded off.

Lol, No worries. I think if you give it a shot you'll like it. You can also try EXO v3 from Gtechniq. That one is also easy to apply and is super hydrophobic. If you're applying Gloss coat you should have no problem at all applying Exo V3.

Actually have it bought for a buddies Mustang. Actually relieved knowing it is easier to apply.
