I see trucks pretty frequently that - window are too dark for me to see anyone inside. I like that but I don't want to get a ticket.

Has anyone been sited for window tint that is too dark? (Big Island?)

My truck is going to be a 2017 TRD OR DCSB. Honestly? I don't know what the factory windows are going to look like. (coming from Honolulu).

Would love a recommendation for Kona side Tinting shop.

I'm kind of albino and get sunburn just driving around.

Want to tint the sunroom too.

    Thanks!

Happy Aloha Friday to you Big Island TRD OR Tacoma guy!
I live on Oahu and just got my Tacoma on 18JAN18 and they tinted my windows for me to the legal limits and the fronts aren't too dark.
Here's a couple pics I took yesterday while waiting for my wife to finish working before going out to dinner.

If you look at my wife's coworkers Taco his is darker on the rear windows.

These shots were taken on Wednesday with my OR hood and Thursday after swapping out to my TRD Sport hood I purchased this past Monday 19FEB18 from a cool Tacoma guy in Cali and flew the hood overnight to Oahu (thanks to job that was free)

Here are some other pictures that were taken last week when it was hot as heck on a sunny day.

Hope these helped somewhat and congrats on your Tacoma.

Noa and Ohana transplants for work after Aloha Airlines closed now living on Oahu but originally FBI born and raised!

35% is the legal limit. It's dark enough where you can't see your face from outside. Tacomas have a slight tint on the windshield already as well. If you're worried about heat and UV light, just buy the better option for tint material. The place I go on oahu has a box with a heat lamp in it, and you can spin it around and feel the temp differences with the different tints. More expensive stuff was MUCH better.

That being said, I've run 20% on my last BMW and my old Jeep. Windows were dark af, couldn't even see the mirrors at night. But I never got pulled over for it.

I got 80% on my whole windshield, 35% on windows, and 5% on the rear. I'll try take pics.

Word of advice, don't go cheap but ceramic tint isn't needed. Did my whole truck with carbon tint for 320ish.

I got mine 5% all around and 35% windshield. It’s super dark. Tickets not too heavy on the Hilo side but safety check is pretty rough to get. Have 2 yrs for the safety check with new truck so I’ll change it when it’s time.

J.D.- Yours is like a Ghost Truck- never know who's in there. Spooky if that thing drives up next to you. I didn't think about the Safety Check. They'll get you unless you "know a guy". Two years for a new truck? That's good.

Noa, that is a seriously handsome truck!! It's so shiny I cannot tell if it is black or dark gray. Was yours tinted by Servco or where? Can you tell me what brand and type you used? Did you put tint on the moonroof? I didn't want a scoop so we're opposites. Same truck as yours all around I think (mine mag gray- p and t package)

Andrew, that is great advice! Please tell me what was the brand and all of the tint you got. I'm stupid and was just going to get ceramic 'cause that is what folks said to get. I'll look into carbon but tell me what maker yours is would you? I was reading and thought it said that in Hawaii, were not allowed to put anything on the windshield accept top few inches or something like that. I would definitely put 80% on the windshield if I won't be told to take it off later. Where'd you go? I'm big island too.

    Thanks!!

    Aloha @Rayien
Sorry, for the late reply. I got my hood from a donor in NorCal. He sold me the hood for 650 and I flew up to LAX on 18FEB18 and checked luggage on 19FEB18 as I'm a retired UA employee. Got the truck on 18JAN18 and it was all of 30 days from when I threw it out into the universe that I was looking for a sport hood and was very pleased.
The hood is hard to score from donors, but its awesome cause the dealer wants 1300 and the painting place wanted 900. I just had to be patient and watch both the Toyota Tacoma 3GT forum and Tacoma 2016+ forum on facebook as that's where I put my wanting it and boom Kanani I saw a quy ask a question of how much a Sport hood would cost but noticed he had pictures of the same truck so I direct message him asked to please call me cause it seems like he was offering to sell it but never came out to really say so as I noticed he has an OR like me and he said I was right so I told him to give me a number and I told him to face time or skype me from the truck with pictures as I am going to Paypal him right now and we closed the deal.
I hope this helps and hit me up anytime.
    Mahalo,

    Aloha bro!
SWEEEEET truck you got also dude! The truck is 1G3(MGM), 6MT and Yes, Sir the tint was done by Servco. I just learned something from you "tinting moonroof" which I now want to do never thought about it, and I LOVE the suggestion. Roger on the OR and hood I wanted it for the aggressive stance which I got 30 days later from a donor in NorCal with the same setup and color.
Dude your truck is going to be fine to drive and ride around in Big Island. I just wish the Super Ferry was still operating as I'd love to take our truck up Maunakea or Maunaloa and down Makalawena, but dang 450 each way on YB is crazy.
Keep in touch dude and sorry for late reply!
    Noa

    PS
My tint was done by TNT here in Oahu and it was a color match tint type and code is: STRATOS Nano ceramic none metallic tint.
Also my paint was Final coated by Servco, but I am scheduled to have my paint Nano Ceramic glossy coated at Hawaii Auto detail next week as I just want to added dual paint coverage protection since adding the hood which the donor had also done the Toyota Final coat as well.

I thought finalcoat was a device, not paint or actual coating of some sort.

    - Windshield is completely illegal in every state
    - You can go as dark as you want down to the AS1 line (look on the right or left side of the windshield, about 6" from the top, you'll see a little "AS1" mark)
    - You can get clear UV tint for the windshield if you want to stay legal but have heat protection
    - Rear doors can be as dark as you want for trucks and SUV's

    Hope this helps

The majority of officers don't care how dark your windows are, they are only concerned with whether they can see inside the car they've stopped. Roll down your windows before the officer gets to you and if it's night time turn on your interior lights as well. I've written thousands of moving violation citations and have written probably 10-15 tint citations.

I always hoped that's how most officers feel. I understand the reason for tint limits, so I always did exactly that.

You know, I've never even thought that they might be looking at my windows during safety check.

Hey, have any of you guys in Hawaii failed you Safety 'cause of window tinted too dark?

I think I'm going to go 30 or 35 for the fronts anyway, not sure about the backs. I know I'm not supposed to do the windshield but maybe 80 with UV protection or something like that? Would a safety check person even notice? will anyone even notice? Accept that I might be less sunburn when I get home I hope. Yes, sunblock, I know, even just to do errands.... us fricken ghosts.

All Safety stations are supposed to use a light meter on all tinted windows not from factory. If they notice it on your fronts, you can almost guarantee they will check it with the meter. If you have a sedan, then they check the back also. Unlike before, they are little more strict with the new system. No can do the just give your friend the copy of reg and insurance and they give you the stickers any more....
