There is very little info in my owners manual about the rear locker in my 2008 2wd Prerunner, auto trans. I only plan on using it when absolutely necessary, such as being stuck, or in a situation where getting stuck without it is likely. So, does the locker work in reverse? Also, since the manual says to not use it above 5mph, I am assuming you should only use it when in the lowest gear possible. Is this correct? Thanks in advance.

    A few minor things...
A locker locks the differential, creating no difference in rotation between the wheels. It's a physical lock and will work in any direction, just it won't be happy taking tight turns on pavement.

    It will work in reverse.

So can someone elaborate on this locker anytime feature? My manual says nothing about it. I am assuming speed still needs to be kept under the 5mph stated in the manual.

Your a prerunner so it already works any time. It will only engage at <5mph but i xant tell you that it stays locked to at least 70 mph from experience

Does the truck need to be at a full stop to safely engage?

Well alot of the time it doesnt engage as soon as you press the button; you actually have to be moving most of the time for everything to line up for it to engage. And it will just flash if u press it going more than 5mph and not engage

Thank you all for the responses. So does anyone know the reason Toyota states that the truck must not be moving when engaging the locker?
