I’m getting ready to upgrade suspension on my 3rd Gen Tacoma. I don’t plan to wheel this thing hard, and it’s not my dd. But, when I’m out in the back country, I carry anywhere from 300lbs to 700lbs including gear and passengers.

I’d like at least 2” lift over stock. On the table for consideration is OME standard oe style shocks (not bp51) and ADS (just another brand of coil overs like king / icon etc for anyone who doesn’t know ADS)

What I’m wondering is the following:

Considering the ADS 2.5 shocks are probably overkill for my application, will they last longer than traditional oem style ome shocks? If so, for how much longer? And, is the added up front expense of going with racing shocks going to be off-set by a longer service life?

I think the rebuild time is every 30 to 40k miles and I guess that depends on how hard you use them. Probably need to be recharged with nitrogen ( I think) about every year or abouts.

Rebuild versus discard. But rebuild means some downtime, depending on your capabilities and resources. Can be an issue with a daily driver.

Cool - thanks for the feedback. Not sure where I’m going with this, just thinking out loud I guess.

Sounds like rebuilding as well as recharging is pretty straight forward. Plus not a dd so down time is ok.

Mine is a DD with icon 2.5 no resi and I have a pair of 5100 bilstiens I can throw on while rebuilding takes place. You can usually find a set of take offs cheap on here or offer up, craigs list etc....

The OME shocks are very capable for minimal wheeling. The price difference is around 2,000?

    Have you considered bilsteins?
