Is there any drawback to having crossovers mounted inside the doors? I have JBL Club 6.5 inch components and the crossovers are very small. I currently have one bolted onto the back of the speaker adapter plate because it fits nicely without obstructing the install. Since looking at some install options for my amp, I’ve noticed that most people seem to mount their crossovers near the amp. Is there a reason for this? My thought is that it would be easier just to run one speaker wire through each door boot and then run the line from the crossover to the tweeter inside the door panel after sound dampening. And it would just be a short (roughly 10”) jump from the crossover to the mid woofer.

Seriously? No one has a reason to do what they’re doing?

Crossovers in doors aren't the best idea. They're subjected to repeated opening and closing which puts a great deal of stress on the components. Then there's the increased moisture - also not good. And you might decide you want to use the tweeter attenuation switch/jumpers. Sure, people do it all the time, but it's not the best place in a vehicle. I had a set of passives for a spell & found the crossovers fit neatly behind the kick panels in a 1st gen.
