I have a 2017 Tacoma Double cab. My seat position is too high. Not sure if Toyota changed the seat rails or raise the floor on 2016+ models. Will a 2nd gen seat (rails) install in a 2017 Tacoma?. Hope you guys understand my question.

I don’t think aside from aesthetics that there is any difference in seat height.

Unless you previously owned a 2nd gen and feel the 3rd gen seat is different.

Yes, I had a 2012 double cab and seat was ...OK. Just purchased a 2017, thinking that the seats and interior dimensions where unchanged. Well... after a little more research, Toyota decreased the headroom in the 2016+ models by 0.5 inches and changed the H-point of the seat position. This is not good for me. But, I'm not sure if they changed the seat design or the floor height. I'm not an expert at this and do not want to modify the truck or seat. But .... would consider changing the seat rails to 2nd gen if the rails are lower.

In all likelihood the 0.5 difference is due to the sunroof models, at least I’d bet that’s the case. But maybe your right something could have potentially changed. Maybe. Only way to tell is go measure a 2nd gen dimensions yourself vs your 3rd

Edit: or ask a 2nd gen owner to do it. I would but I have aftermarket seats so that won’t help you at all

    2012 spec. Head room 40.2
2017 spec. Head room 39.7 + raised the H-point of the seat. Or when they raised the H-point the headroom decreased by 0.5.
I will try to measure a 2nd gen seat and see if it will be lower.

I called Toyota. They said, altering the seats or "swapping out" will void the warranty. So.... I'm living with it for now. Trying to sell it on Craigslist and CarGurus.

That's not how warranties on cars works.

Yeah, you're not gonna void the warranty on anything but the seats themselves. And I don't really see why you'd need a seat warranty, I haven't ever seen a broken seat in a car that was less than about 20 years old.
