    Hey Everyone,

So as some users know, I've been asking a lot of questions / annoying people and getting great knowledge from all of you regarding a new truck purchase. I first agreed to buying a sport my dealer has coming in, then changed to an off road. Since both trucks aren't coming in until a week or 2, I still can buy whichever I want. Choice is between a TRD 4x4 DCSB sport or off road.

I know all of the major differences, so this isn't a "sport vs or" thread. However I'm still struggling which is best FOR ME. Here are my must-haves and wants:

    1) I want a 4x4 truck for looks and utility. Mainly a home depot getter that cleans up well.
    2) I don't plan to rock crawl or get into any serious off roading. Maybe will be taken off road 3-4 times a year.
    3) I want better traction in new england weather (i think 4x4 on both solves this) as I live in a mountainous area with lots of hills
    4) I plan to do a small lift and beefier tires

I know that sounds like a sport, but getting the OR value also appeals to me. I think looks-wise its a no brainer to me.

Off road all day, they are the same price, but the off-road actually comes with functional upgrades (rear locker, crawl control, more compliant suspension) versus the sport has a hood scoop...

In my opinion it’s a no brainer... I’ve got a ‘16 off road and love it! Hope this helps!

Get an extended test drive of both to see which feels better to you.

Have you driven them both back to back? Honestly for you I think the biggest difference would be how they ride. Sport will be stiffer. But, since you plan to do a lift anyways the OR suspension then becomes a non factor.

You have all the resources to make your own decision for your life. Good luck. You sound like a Sport guy to me imo.

Buy one each. Or as my dad says “shit or get off the pot” best wishes on your choice. I have the sport. No issues on the sidewalks. :)

I wish they had the off-road with the sport appearance. I ended up doing everything sport but the damn hood scoop.

If the dealership is selling both around the same price point +/- $1,000 (dealerships mark up/down on ether trim depending on market). I would get OR.

Honestly though, you don’t need the extra stuff the OR has for the things you described you would use the truck for.

Hell just buy an SR5 if you aren’t going to use the OR package as intended. Save yourself some cash and just buy an SR5 4x4

I've had both and I can't really give you a big enough reason to choose one or the other unless you off road so much you need the locker right away. You'll notice the sport is less bouncy and feels a bit more solid on the road but that's all the difference I notice day to day. I decided based off manual AC configuration. People hate on sports all the time to make themselves feel good. I never got it but I'm not a hater in general. Don't pay attention to the spot hate. Just look on IG plenty of sport guys are very serious and off road all the time while plenty of OR guys never left pavement. Its kind of a ridiculous dick swinging contest if you ask me. You should even try an SR5 4x4

sport gets you - hood scoop. painted fender flairs, 17" wheels, street tires

off road gets you - rear locker, crawl control, bilstein shocks, skid plates, mud/snow rated tires

even if i never went off road I would still get the off road model

Off-road, you could always had the sport stuff, but can't add the off-road stuff.

Personally think the Sport might be a good fit for you and a long bed at that. The sport has firmer suspension that will handle better on the road. It has a few features that make it a bit smoother for daily driving. The locker is nice to have but isnt used frequently unless in specific off-road situations. The long bed is another discussion all together but makes the truck more usefull when carrying larger objects back and forth. At least in California, the prices for both are relatively the same on the used truck market and hey, who doesnt like the look of a sport hood? Heck, they even threw it on the Pro because it was that desirable!

OR comes with more options to begin with. If price isn't a factor OR all day. One day you will wish you had some of the features and you could have been paying the same payment.. or like stated about SR5 4x4 and save a ton of cash. Comes down to what you want. I had an 09 sport and will never own a sport again. Now I drive a 16 OR. Comes down to personal usage though and what is important to you.

Exactly what I thought when I read through the list. Use the money saved for your lift and tires.

It truly sounds like an SR5 would suit you the best if you plan to upgrade the suspension and wheel/tire package anyway. What is it about the Sport/Off-Road you are willing to spend an extra $6,000 to $8,000 for?

Owned a 09 Sport before the current 12 OR. I added suspension and other things to the Sport but still needed that 4X4 as I wanted to off road more. If only going to be off road or fire roads 3-4 times a year then the SR 4x4 should be fine and save you some money.
