I'm looking to replace my tires with something a little bigger and better. I'm planning on running 265/70R17s on my 17 stock OR with FN FX pro wheels which weight about what the stocker wheels weight.

I'm between C ply KO2s, and Nitto Grappler G2s as I've heard good things about both of these. Performance wise, the KO2s seem to get better reviews, but they are just under 46 lbs, while the Nittos are around 40 lbs. The stock tires are 38 lbs.

The biggest concern I have is that the rotational mass of the heavier tire will result in noticeably less torque and a much more sluggish truck. The KO2s seem to be a better tire, but do you guys think it would be worth it in terms of performance loss?

    any input appreciated.

Go with the nittos, you won't notice any loss in power.. from the butt dyno

Hi Anthony. Based on the criteria you have given, it appears the G2 is the way to go. Both tires are great tires. The KO2s will likely outlast the Nittos but if the extra weight is a concern, you have the answer. 46 pounds is not a heavy tire at all but, still think of the extra weight as like ankle weights. The more you have th harder it will be. For me, I kind of draw the line around 48 pounds, meaning I rule out any tire from my search that weighs more than that. Some may disagree but I prefer as light of a tire as possible that will still meet my needs. Some guys that rock crawl need those heavier E rate tires so I can understand how and why they would require a heavier tire. In the end, either one of these would likely work for you with very little if any noticeable loss of power. Best of luck to you and sorry for the rambling - morning coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.
