I always pull the dipstick to see if it has clean oil on it before I leave the dealership. While I'm at it I look down at the filter to see if the lettering is in the same position on the filter and that gives me the assurance they changed the filter also. I'm debating on taking my own oil and filter with me next year for my yearly oil change. Only about a $10.00 difference either way I go..

I've only changed my oil once without spilling it everywhere. I just got lucky. I am at the point where the next time I attempt this feat I'll just wear a "scuba suit", rubber face mask, goggles and gloves. With a "slip and slide" underneath me so I can roll up the mess and dispose of it properly.:D That's if the even make a "slip and slide" anymore. Barring that? Plastic film under the entire truck.

Luckily, I only have to do this every 7 or 8000 miles.:bananadance:

I can tell you how they do it. They have a huge drain pan so big you couldn't lift it and no matter where the oil goes it lands in the drain pan. They also have a lift and the drain pan rolls around and is elevated. They are standing up when they change your oil. Not laying on their backs like we do. The mechanic just washes any oil off with "Fast Orange" when he/she is done.

I have a Fumoto for the pan, and I normally will crack the filter loose, then use a gallon ziploc bag over the filter as I twist it off.. Works like a charm!

A little of this and a little of that.
I changed the oil and filter in my ‘13 Regular cab today. I used the zip-lock bag method for the filter. Fantastic! No drips, no spills, no problems.

I forgot to use the ziplock bag technique on my last oil filter change and my arm paid the price, so I will remember next time. :frusty: :annoyed: :(

Absolutely, but as dependable as these engine are you'll be changing oil more than 9 times. There's a price for comfort, and it's $225
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/536996/

I was able to lower the price months ago

I used something called a pitstop glove tonight. It's a glove with a plastic cup built right in. Just put it on and have the cup around your wrist, drop the oil filter in and take it all out at one time. Then take it off put the lid on the cup and throw it in the corner for next time
