So, I purchased a Tacoma and drove 325 miles home, there was a vibration that started around 50mph and got worse as we neared home. Upon close inspection, the carrier bearing rubber was shot and the u joint bearing at the rear axle was shot, one of the cups had a chunk missing and all the needle bearings had fallen out. So, after about 2.5 hours of labor, and $118, 2 u joints and a new carrier bearing, the vibration is gone! It only vibrated above 50mph and when pressing the gas to slightly load it, when coasting there was no vibration.

You were lucky. Two years ago we drove from GA to the Grand Canyon. On the morning of the last leg of our trip I felt the same vibration. It was a Sunday. We got into the campground just in time to set up camp and see the sunset over the canyon. The next morning I drove the 80 miles into Flagstaff and left my wife at the canyon. Cost me almost $300 at a dealer to get one replaced and lost a full day.

The pic in my avatar was in Kodachrome canyon in southern Utah a few days later on the same trip.
