This may be dumb but... I have notice that since i got my ToyTec Boss lift installed my truck tends to rock forward and backward when I come to a stop. If I brake hard it does not do it. Its the worst when I am at a stop light and let off the brake slightly to creep forward and then stop again. Is this a common thing that results from lifting or is something out of whack with my setup?

Just googled it and it doesn't seem like I have the symptoms. Everything seems to say axle wrap causes a thunk/clunk or whatever, which I do not have.

Nah there doesn't have to be a thunk or thud or hum or whistle for it to be axle wrap. Think about it...it is the only non fixed / solid object in the mix. Your front end has zero fwd to back flex except for your tires, the ass end on the other hand has these long flexible flat bits of metal called leaf springs that flex like crazy particularly after extra leverage such as a lift block is installed. Tacoma leafs are notoriously weak and well known to have axle wrap. Don't believe me...go mount a GoPro under the back end of your truck aimed at the top of axle and watch the footage.

Doesn't need to clunk to be axle wrap.

Actually if you want to see something really funny go put your truck in park ( no e brake ) and grab your back wheel and force it / rock it forward and backward by rotating it and just watch your leaf springs flex and twist from just the force of your bare hands....then tell me your feelings on your lack of axle wrap o_O

No. It's something you deal with unless you fix it.

Seems like you think it's something else regardless, so I'd just not worry about it.

I installed the BOSS lift a couple months ago and haven't noticed the slight rocking. However, a friend of mine mentioned something about it as he saw me creep up and stop at a light. As soon as All Pro gets their bushing sleeves in stock, they'll ship out my expos. and I'm hoping this is one way to fix it.

I am new to all this stuff so i really have no idea what it is. After reading a bunch of stuff about axle wrap on here it seems everyone has some sort of clunk or sound. I don't have any cluck or sounds when accelerating or decelerating. Everything seems fine other than this forward/backward rocking when i am stopped. I don't want to mess up this $40k truck so thought i would check to see if anyone else has this and if its something that need fixing. I will probably take it to the offroad shop and see what they say. Its not really bothering me, so as long as it won't cause harm then im all good with it.

It looks like the Boss kits comes with an option of either blocks for the rear or an AAL. If you got the blocks, they are notorious for causing axle wrap.

Also check to see if the U-bolts are torqued properly. They should also be re-torqued 500 miles after install.

Hey man no problem. I ordered All Pro's Expedition leaf springs (similar to their standard duty springs, but able to support heavier loads due to increased cargo and gear such as roof top tents, camping supplies, etc.) but they currently have a shortage of bushing sleeves. Here's a diagram that might help explain. The sleeves are the metal cylinders that slide inside the red bushings.

Keep in mind your truck has a good 14 years on mine, but our situations sound similar; I have also not heard a clunking sound. The first gens ('95-'04) are notorious for stock leaf spring sagging, after all they only have three plus an overload spring in the pack. That being said, it doesn't surprise me that I may have axle wrap even though I chose the AAL over the blocks. There's an increases in the moment (torque) (force x perpendicular distance) acted on the springs because all that perpendicular forward/backward force is acting 2 more inches away from the nearest support (being the U-bolts). I'm not sure if this is helping, but I agree that it's a possibility worth looking into.

Did you guys ever figure this out? I just installed Dakars and I'm not having this exact issue. When I stop, especially when inching up at red lights, I get a lot of front to back rocking (oscillating). Like a bobble head.

I have toytec boss 2.5 and dakar leaf pack, my truck feels very solid when braking(no back and forth motion when stoping).

Edit- check your rear shocks make sure no leaks, never know
