With a 10" wheel. IMO, I would go with the 285. Not sure the 265 would fit on a 10" wheel; stretched across the wheel. I am sure others will also chime in with other opinions/experiences.

Edit: Not really sure how a 10" wheel with 285's will fit without a lift.

Even with a lift... it's 5" backspace; same as stock.

I had to get a cab mount chop, trim front inside fenders, and 2” lift to fit 285/75R16 with 4.5” back space on an 8” wide rim

Don’t think it’ll fit on yours stock.

Have you done any research on 285s before posting this?

    Stock rim width is 7".
285s have a 7.5"-10" rim width range, depending on diameter
265s have a 7"-9.5" rim width range, depending on diameter

    What diameter wheel?

So confused on what you are trying to accomplish. Changing how wide the rim is wouldn’t matter. The backspacing does. Also, are you planning to take this vehicle off-road? Have you thought about the fender flares hitting when suspensiongets fully compressed and your tire is sticking out?

    285s! I’m running a 285/70/17 and it looks great but I do have about a 3” lift

    my build tread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/socal-no-shame-poser-build.513084/
Stick to aggressive 265’s with no lift or just a front level. Too many mods down the rabbit hole for 285’s even with a lift let alone stock height.

I would go with that ^^^ I'm lifted with 265's on wheels 17x8.5 -6 offset.. tires are a hair past the edge of the fender (TRD) look good no rub... 285s gonna look weird w/no lift imho and no fender flairs and a bunch of chop.

Gonna be bro bro... to each their own on that.

Only reason for 285s and stock suspension is so you can do Friday Flex at the mall... just sayin.

This is what I think every time people recommend "just getting a lift". I don't plan to make my tires look cool at the mall, I want my truck to work/be capable in all situations.

I wouldn't wing it, it most likely won't work. I guarantee you will rub on your uca's.
