Yea, you are right. The Morimoto fogs will look stupid with the OEM halogens.

You, Brett @Parker315 , and everyone else are right about these Hikari's. I've seen the results through all your very informative posts, reviews and pics. Time to just jump off that damn fence!

    Done.

You won't regret it. And install takes 10 minutes tops. No issue with bulb alignment in lows. For highs 6 mm worked on passenger side and prob 2.5 mm on driver side. I just trigged out 35 degrees on a 9.5 mm radius. Use pythagorean theorem. A square plus B square equals C square. I always used the soh cah toa method sine =opposite/hypotenuse or cosine=adjacent/hypotenuse or tangent=opposite/adjacent.

I'll wait until everything is in hand, and then the first Saturday (praying it's not St. Patty's Day) I'll do them both, the fogs and lows. I'll pull the truck like 6 or 7 feet away from the garage door, mark the existing light lines for the fogs by themselves and make the switch.

I'll be sure to find a desolate unlit road and I'll take some shots, and I might even shoot a video. I'll make sure I lock the iso on the camera so it doesn't adjust to the illumination.

The only complaint I have are the fans, not the sound because we rarely have our lights without the engine running and I know @Parker315 gave the computer tower analogy but I think the highways have a lot more grime and dust/dirt granules...I worry about them sizing up...have you seen your air filter just before you replace it? It’s more of a worry that know I’m over thinking but I only hope the bulb itself overheats and burn out when the fan dies rather than melt any housing or seals. That’s all, other than that WOW is all I have to say. Goodnight to all and thank you for all the help and research you guys have put into testing and posting. My truck would not be as nice as it is without you guys and this forum.

    Holy crap!!! @RobP62 @ToyoDrew @jayrobot @mrproduxn

I’m off for 1 day and I’m 4 pages behind lmao!

I saw all the tags and questions directed at me, but it looks like all questions were answered. If not shoot me a PM and I’ll get you an answer.

Rob, glad you finally pulled the trigger man!!:thumbsup:

@jayrobot hope all your questions were answered and your happy with your new lights!

@mrproduxn thanks for being a great contributor to this thread.. oh and awesome battle scar haha I’ve got a few good ones myself from the light bar install.

It’s appears that the Hikari Philips Bulbs are still number 1 for price and quality.

Installed the Hikari Philips LEDs in the low beams last night. I love easy installs like this - stuff I can knock out after the little kids go to sleep haha. The halogen low beams were looking goofy after I installed the Morimoto XB LED fogs, these seem to match much better. Really changes the look of the truck for the better in my opinion.

I assume no one has had any issues with getting flashed by oncoming drivers with these? Drove with them for first time this morning, when I was behind another car at a light the reflection seemed way brighter than the halogens. No one flashed me during the 30 minute drive so guessing I'm okay.

Thanks everyone for all the testing and reviews, these bulbs definitely seem like a good product.

I guess fan life depends on regional climate and dusty offroad use. I wonder if covering them with panty hose material would help protect and prolong the life. Might be a cheap thing to do if you are exposed to dust frequently. In my region, and being only street use, I expect to have no issues. Probably not a bad idea to blow them out with the air hose every 6 months or so as to keep them clean.

I think the real reason the Fogs turn off when you switch to high beams is that they become useless. If you've ever driven in fog bad enough to need fog lights, you understand that you need a very sharp vertical cut-off to avoid having the light reflected right back at you from the fog, and and a very wide swath to be able to see the edges of the road. Switch your high beams on when in fog, and you can't see anything but white in front of you, and you can't see the edges of the road, either. And the strength of the high beams overpowers the fogs if they are on concurrently, so you don't get their benefit. I think most driver education classes emphasize that if you drive into fog, never use your high beams. While I'm on the subject, a great safety tip when driving in dense fog is to slow down and roll your driver-side window down. That allows you to hear the multi-vehicle crash ahead of you that you can't yet see (been there, done that!)

Now for those of you that are converting your fog lights into auxiliary driving lights, with beam patterns that are optimized to see a long ways down the road, you might need to do the mod to allow them to be on with the high beams.

That's what I did to install the Hikaris. Thus, I got to keep all my blood inside my hand, at least for this mod

Or use a satellite dish gravity angle gauge for like $4 from HFT. No math required. And NOTE this is a sober project. You kids today with your CAD. Back in my day we just grab the drafting tools and actually hand draft stuff. Never could hand draft in 3d though.

From what I can remember, I haven't seen these reviewed by anyone in this thread...so you'd be the first! Looks like they might be worth trying out because they are fairly thin. The bigger the gap between the left LEDs and the right LEDs, the bigger the dark spots might be (less light reflecting off the inside of the headlight housing). Plus, since it's through Amazon, you can easily send them back for something else.

If you do get these, we'd all love to see before & after pictures and your thoughts on how they look!

I know, if I don't hit the What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen thread at least once a day I will be 50 pages behind. I actually started to unsub to some threads. I just really enjoy this forum and the people on it are Fn fantastic! And I've yet to be banned or warned so Win Win! :D

Cool thanks! You know I will!

Yea, insomnia got the best of me again. Found that Morimoto coupon, figured the price couldn't get any lower for me than that, knew I was leaning towards the blacked out look, so I scooped up those XB fogs. Then @mrproduxn pushed me off the fence nearly daring me to buy the Hikari's for the lows. Naaaa, I knew I couldn't run LED fogs and Halogen Lows so I figured better to do them both in the same day. I know the highs will be lacking but those are next. Just in a couple weeks.

I'm going to try to do a video comparison and post it up on You Tube on my channel. I have some basic post production skills and a friend that is a expert so together we should be able to come up with a side by side video of a drive through the country at night. Naturally I will speed up the timing so you are not watching a 20 min video at normal speed (yawn). My plan though is to change the speed to normal or slow motion in areas where there are fields and straights that really emphasize the lighting differences.

Yea, that's what I thought, I mean if after nearly 2000 posts we haven't come up with a better LED conversion than what am I waiting for. I also I figured, if they last two years that's good enough for me. If they last longer then great. I just wasn't ready to drop $200 bucks on a set of low beam bulbs and I have already ruled out HIDs so........

Hopefully everything can be installed this weekend.. :fingerscrossed:

Dude what's your channel name man? I'll look you up on YouTube. I am planning to do more Tacoma Video's as well.

I just posted a new Video of my Colorado Ski trip on Sunday. Go check it out here https://youtu.be/8etYOuFIFNs

I cant wait to see those Morimotos! I really want some, but the price is so high. I like to get a lot of things for a low price rather than 1 thing for a high price hahahaha Maybe one day I'll get the XD's.
