I agree if all you think a dyno is is for peak numbers, as in magazine headline fodder.

I strongly disagree if you can actually read a dyno chart and see where power is being added in the normal operating ranges of a particular vehicle. For example, it jumps close to peak torque early on and stays fairly flat till redline. Not that it is just a sharp climb to redline.

As far as drag racing, I'm not sure where you get the 'ignore' info. So saith I, a former crew member of an NHRA E/S ET record holder. Maybe we weren't 'big time', but we did tune with dyno results being a factor.

Dyno results are a factor, it's just not ALWAYS about how much power you can make. I 100% agree with what you said

Performance is usually measured with lap times, speed, acceleration, etc. Stuff you can't see or do on a dyno

 

What really sucks is that it's time to log off and go home, and I JUST FUCKING KNOW that that mods are going to show up and hose this thread down like the fresh fish scene in Shawshank while I'm stuck hating on kids in a school zone.

That’s why dyno is always baseline and then you tune for your specific conditions. CAI and exhaust provide absolutely no benefit on an untuned NA engine.
