So your bushing mount was steel then? You can't weld Alum to steel and get a weld to work properly unless there is some new voodoo welding I am unaware of.

On my Kings the uniball is in cup taht is machined into the lower. The rod is threaded into the lower for several inches. And the lower is not the weak point. Ever have a shock apart? The threads and nut that hold the valving assembly on to the rod are the weakest point. So if a failure were to occur during rapid extension, that would most likely be the failure point.
To be honest, I have yet to blow up a shock on this truck, and I have not seen with my own eyes a failure that I could definitively pinpoint the cause of failure. I am by no means a shock or suspension expert.

The shock rods are induction hardend steel. But likely the heims is threaded into the shaft on those too.
Not familiar at all with the Tundra retrofit though. Hopefully they were valved for Monty?

I have had more shocks apart than I can count. Every week circle track racing I was the suspension guy so that was my job. But like you said for most of what we do it would be rare for a shock failure.

Got ya I did not realize you were talking about your nes wtuff with welding I thought you were talking about the old broken stuff. The tundy shocks look sweet.

. Most of the pics of the "stock" style performance replacement shocks the lower mounts look like they are anodized alum. threaded onto the shaft which is why I was thinking that. Looking more closely at the king pics all of them are welded it looks like though.

I believe you I just looked through a ton of pics and the Kings all appeared to have welded ends even if they are threaded first then welded that adds some strength to them rather than just threaded.

Stacking dimes looks like some good TIG welding there.

More than likely it is the spring compressing into that top overload, causing a rapid increase in spring rate, which makes the ride harsh. I eliminated that overload when I got mine and added the extra thrid leaf. The harsh ride that I had stock was what I was trying to get around.
I would pull that overload, and then see how it rides. I am betting you will see a huge improvement.
If it wasn't snowing out, I would ask you for a pic of your leaves so I could see how the springs are static in relation to that overload.

Ugh dude! I am totally not looking forward to yanking these! I told myself I am leaving everything because when I’m loaded up on trips I didn’t want any sag. I guess my cutting and shit is going to be more intense than I thought. I’ll send a pic tomorrow

Only one I know that has both overloads in his Dakars is Floyd. And that guy packs more shit in the back of his truck than a Filipino going camping.

    Yupper. I’m a boy scout.

There’s not been a single time when someone I’m wheeling with asks if I had something they needed.

@Sub-Zero : “I wish we had a 18” x 10” piece of plywood we could set this jack on.

@Subway4X4 : No, sorry dude. But how about this 18 x 11 instead.

    @HolyHandGrenade : I forgot D size batteries for OCK’s hot shower. I’m fooked.

@subway : How many do you need?

@Lux : Lloyd got any superglue to fix my actuator?

@Subway4X4 : yup, but I think this epoxy is a much better choice. Here ya go.

Gives me something to do. I’ll probably yank it. But not sure I’ve got 500lbs in the rear constant

Looks like about a 200$ difference
And from everything I can find Smitty is about 30# heavier, not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
