Probably a dumb wheel question

    Fellas,
I know with the 2nd Gen Tacoma, 4.5 backspacing was the magic number that you wanted for the best fit and stance that you put onto your truck. Has this changed with the 3rd Gen?

I'm looking to put some 16 inch 4.5 backspaced wheels on the factory tires, no lift. Will there be rubbing? Eventually there will be a leveling kit with 31's, but baby steps...

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed, I tried searching but it came back with so many threads that it threw me an error.

You will not have rubbing on stock tires. The stock wheels are 16x7 with 25mm offset so that gives you roughly 5.5" of backspacing, 4.5 pushes the rim out an inch.

Stock tires are 30.6" tall, most people are putting 265/75R16 and 265/70R17 tires (31.6") on stock trucks, most say it only rubs full lock on the mudflap, which can be removed.

Keep in mind that width matters too... a wheel with 4.5" backspace that's 10" wide will fit much differently than an 8" wide wheel with 4.5" backspace.

I put 16x8 4.5bs wheels with 265/70/16 tires on my truck with mud flaps and zero rubbing. 2017 OR 4x4.
