Wow I'm surprised, I would think all V8s are timing chains and the four cylinders are timing chains .

    Let's back up.

4.7 are v8 with timing belt.
4.6 are v8 with timing chains.

4.0 are v6 and have timing chains and don't need service. They last the lifetime of the truck.

Can I ask what vehicle you have?

    Vehicle:
    2003 Tacoma TRD 4dr Prerunner 4wd conversion
6”rough country lift, 35” bfg mud terrain, step bars, home made solid 5" bull bar frame mounted top and bottom with gussets ( used an excavator to completely suspend the truck in the air held only by the bull bar), 180k, no rust, no leaks, no cel's, no issues. 4wd conversion with front and rear e-lockers.
Everybody says that you can get to that bolt without removing the ac. I see no way possible, i cant fit a 1/4 extension in between the bracket and oil pan or whatever to even make contact with the bolt.. ive also removed the compressor and still cant get to the bolt, will have to take the bracket out completely.. used swivels, used a bendy extension, cant even reach fingers to touch the bolt head.. dunno whats different about my truck but theres no access to it period.. luckily i was able to use a sawzall and cut the old tensioner out to remove the bolt but cannot get it back in without taking off the bracket. Havent disconnected the ac lines but moved compressor as far back as i could without busting a line.. why do they always put bolts in some difficult places on parts needing replaced on sched maint? Ford is the worst about it but jeez this one bolt is back behind everything.. they could have at least made an access hole or something.. and another thing, why do they put holes in the subframe on top? Ive dropped that bolt 4 times and it went right inside the friggn frame and have to reach a mag inside to fish it out.. whats the point of holes on top? All they do is allow crap to fall inside.. i get the holes on bottom.. but top? Speed holes? No comprende.. but that tensioner can go sit on a cactus.. twice..
