I joined this forum because I bought a used 2012 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner with a 4.0L V-6. the other week I got the check engine light along with the Trac light, after taking it to Toyota and them telling me to go fly a kite needless to say I was pissed. I went and bought a scanner so I could clear my own codes and I ran across a video of Paul Hewitt showing a by-pass kit he made that you can install on just about any Toyota to get rid of that check engine light due to the Air Injection pump or the secondary Valves. I would tell anyone that this happens to do not bother with Toyota because the new parts could cause the same check engine light. Call Hewitt-Tech Inc. and buy his kit like I did and you problems are solved and will never return. My truck has never ran better ever since I installed mine. One of the main reason I joined this forum is to let people know so they don't spend hours googling like I did to try and find a answer. Good Luck.

No need to worry the 2012 v6 tacoma's have a warranty enhancement on them. Bring it to them and they will be replaced at no charge.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM (ZHA): AIR INJECTION PUMPS AND/OR AIR SWITCHING VALVES ON CERTAIN 2012 MY TACOMA VEHICLES

Primary Coverage offers the Customer Support Program until February 28, 2019, with no mileage limitation.
After the Primary Coverage period ends, the Secondary Coverage is applicable for 10 (ten) years from the date of first use, or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Toyota sent me paperwork saying they would fix mine, what you don't understand is the replacement parts are going bad just l;ike the original, there are guys out there that have had Toyota put 2 and 3 of the same replacement parts and they are going bad. What I am telling you is to get rid of the problem FOREVER is to install the by-pass kit on your vehicle. If you google and read or go on the Hewitt-Tech Inc. site and read the reviews you will read the horror stories of people that had the part or parts replaced only for the check engine light to come on again and again!!!!! Please reads the reviews. I have researched this for a year and what I am telling you is TRUE.

BTW, Toyota did give every Toyota owner a Retroactive 10yr 150,000 mile warranty to cover the air injection pump and the secondary valves, the problem is they are not replacing but about 10-15% of them, so you can get a replacement part that can go bad like the original or get rid of it personally with the by-pass kit. Call and talk to them at Hewitt=Tech Inc. and you will be enlightened.
