You know, I don't understand why the laws say handguns at 21 but rifles at 18... at the very least it should be consistent, and I think I'm maybe a little more in favor of 21 than 18.

At least back in PA, but I'm pretty sure almost nationwide, as long as it is not a school or a courthouse or any place actually mandated by state legislation you can ignore private org's "no guns" signs. They have no force of law behind them as far as it being a crime to carry a gun in such a location.

The key I was told is that if someone notices you have a firearm and the staff (any staff, not just a manager) ask you to leave, you must then leave or you are trespassing, and that is a crime. They can't call the cops on you and say "he violated my sign," as long as you politely vacated the premises upon being asked to leave no crime has taken place.

the signage is correct, however any responsible gun owner will acknowledge the signs and abide without confrontation.

In 1968 the Legal Constitutional Age of an Adult was 21 years old. 20,19,18, and under were considered juveniles with no Constitutional Guarantees. In 1971 on July 5th the 26th Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified and lowered the Legal Age of an Adult to 18 years old. Maybe you should read that amendment along with the rest of the Constitution. The age limit on handgun purchases for those under 21 has never been challenged in the Federal Court System but thanks to Wal-Mart, Dick's Sporting Goods & politicians that is now in the making. Dick's Sporting Goods now has opened a legal can of worms that the end result is not what Democrats or Gun Control Advocates wish for.

That would be a tough sell on such a case though, the 26th merely states that those over the age of 18 may vote, not any specific constitutional guarantees:

As far as I understand it states still individually set the age of majority, which is 18 in all except Alabama, Nebraska, and Mississippi, if I'm remembering right.

While the Heller v DC ruling slam dunks the "individual right" unconnected with militia service (as anyone with a functioning brain who understands sentence structure should have figured out) the constitutionality of restricting the right until adulthood (as far as I know) is un-trodden ground.

There's a difference between carrying into such an establishment hoping to cause a scene, and simply disregarding it because there is no force of law behind it save for the aforementioned trespass scenario.

If you can't drink alcohol till you are 21 buy a handgun or a long gun until 21 then let's raise the voting age and the ability to join the military till 21 also.
I always thought that it was bull shit that I could die for my country but couldn't have a beer to celebrate when I got back .

more strict background checks. follow ups. mental health evaluations. I think if you want to be able to go to a grocery store with children and other harmless people around you and you feel the need to carry a lethal firearm, you should need to prove yourself worthy at least a little bit. Not asking for much, really.

I saw a Tacoma today it was a black one with a load of lumber in the back .

How do you know that the people in the grocery store are harmless? A gun is only lethal weapon if it's used. The cars in the parking lot can be lethal weapons ,bleach ,amonia, knives, even Tide pods for that matter. I know first hand the evil that man can do and that is why I carry . They are just a defensive tool . 99% of the time they will never be needed. If and when that 1% ever ocures I or someone else like me stands between your family and the crazy trying to harm them wouldn't you like him to have a chance at protecting them?

Hah, I have a friend who said "oh, I don't see many Tacomas around here..." and I looked at her like she had grown three heads.
We were sitting at a light and I pointed out that there were at least 3 of them in sight right now and that it was pretty hard to not see one.
She's not the best at remaining a resident of planet Earth at times.:p

Here's the thing. You see, your idea is not unreasonable, however it is the catch 22 of gun control. Any time you gate the right behind some process like a class or evaluation or application, it allows gun grabbers to unilaterally enact what amounts to bans without any due process or legislative input. Mandated classes? Let's choke off class size and make the process unreasonably expensive. Psych eval? Like @0uTkAsT said all it takes is a crusader against gun rights to declare all their clients unfit. We've already seen with carry permits that applications would get thrown away or never processed simply because the police chief had a bug up his or her butt.

(This is why a lot of states with shall issue carry permits specifically state that you must have an answer within 30 days or you are automatically approved- because otherwise precincts with a liberal CLEO would bin your app and say "oh yeah... processing... gonna be a few years...":jerkoff:)

Something moderate like universal background checks for any transfer, and better equipping NICS are great ideas, but we won't see them because there are forces constantly trying to drag policymakers to the extreme.

Our attention has been drawn to this thread due to the political nature of some of the more recent postings.

I, as well as the other mod’s/admin would like to take the opportunity to allow some of the postings to be removed by the poster on their own accord. We’d also like to ask that the thread be brought back around to the original direction.

    Thanks!

That's some funny stuff right there. I was in a national thread that a post made was completely political and nothing was said by the mods. I made my statement there and then unsubscribed. This is a AZ tread and we are just having a logical discussion about the ability to protect yourself and others if need be. I was just discussing this with my son this morning and what will the mods do? Well here we are. The mods chimed in on a non abusive demeaning or name calling debate about guns that the people talking about would go out of their way to help each other out in any way shape or form regardless of what they believe in .
If this gets me banned for speaking my mind then so be it . It will just show that some lean in one direction more than being in the middle.
For all the AZTW guys thank you for being a great bunch of guys and gals and text me if you need some bacon .
    Love you all

We are here because we were notified. We aren’t in every thread reading every post so sure, things get missed. However, when it’s brought to our attention and we take a look. I’m not looking to ban anyone, reply ban anyone or do anything else. Just asking if it can be cleaned up.

It’s a sensitive subject and I’ve read through the last pages and there is good, relevant information that’s been posted (letter to REI for one). But some stuff is questionable and just asking it be cleaned up. That’s all.
