    Hi everyone,
(Perhaps this has been asked already, but I couldn't find any comments related to this). I have 285/R17 on all 4 corners, and my spare tire is the stock one that came w. my truck. I'd like to replace that with a matching spec tire. Has anyone been able to fit a 285/R17 under the bed?

I have tow kit, I know that could be a problem. Sorry again if this has been asked before.
    Thanks for replies. :)

See those metal prongs holding the spare? Bash and bend the shit out of them to make it fit, grind, or cut them off. Should be good on clearance to the muffler as well.

. Cool, I'd go under there and check and see. Looks like I'm going to borrow some muscle.

Hey Alex I'm running my 285 spare. Like golf said, bend the tabs. I also bought a used 285 on purpose so that it was slightly smaller in tread to fit under there. I figure if I'm in a bind to need it I will only need it temporarily. Plus didn't want to spend good money on something I would barely use.

Exactly what Volksparts said no need for a brand new spare, I bought a used Toyo M/T off of Craigslist in a 285/75/17 for a spare and it fit fine but any bigger it will hit the factory muffler and melt the tread.

Feel free to text me and I can assist you putting it up brother. I even have a source here in SD for inexpensive used tires mounted and balanced.

Rather than start a new thread, I'll add to the OP's question... does it still fit if you use an aftermarket wheel? (16x8 et0 fwiw).

Not sure if that wheel would fit. My issue with that Jeremy is that you run the risk of scratching up the aftermarket wheel with the tire carrier plate as it's clamped down and just being under there. But logically to me it seems it should still fit as long as the diameter of the tire itself is still roughly 33 inches. Anything larger could possibly rub the exhaust unless you decided to fabricate your pipe or move it.

hey Dave. Thanks bro. I will try to reach out to you this weekend. By the way, I tried to text you back few days back and it wouldn't go. It said 'message sent failure'. Did you change your # by any chance? Is it still the one ending in 0776 ?
    Alex
