Tomorrow is Friday, I believe... I think I'll start celebrating now.

 

Use caution, it can be your friend but recently the pricing of saws particularly have jumped. Everyone wants them as art/decorations as "rustic" due to that home renovation show in Texas.
I do have a few contacts that know I look for usable saws and can find me something pretty quick.
What size are you looking for?


So these are my current saws, top is 3 ft and 2- 4 footers
Bottom is a 6 ft 2 man.

TRD Sports and SR5 have limited slip differentials governed by the ABS signal, but Toyota (for some unknown reason) only wired it so it work' in 2Hi and 4Hi. So we only have open diffs in 4Lo, meaning one wheel in front and one wheel in back get power(not really 4 wheel drive)
There is a yellow signal wire located behind the glove compartment that signals the computer to cancel the ABS signal while in 4Lo.
The mod is to:
1. Disconnect your battery
2. Remove glove compartment door(No tools needed)
3. Locate the correct yellow wire and cut it. Cover ends of cut wire with electrical tape.
4. Connect battery. Done

This cancels the signal to the computer, giving you limited slip in 4Lo also. The only downfall to this is the 4Lo light on your dash will stay blinking while in 4Lo instead of constantly staying lit. That's a trade I'm willing to make for better traction.

 

You can wire it to a switch. It doesn't kill the ABS, it allows it to work in 4Lo too.
You see, the ABS sensor on each wheel monitors how fast each wheel is turning. When one side is spinning faster than the other side(from loss of traction) it will brake that side slightly to allow more power to the side having more traction.

Right now I'm looking for something reasonably compact that's good for harvesting downed older (dry) trees or clearing a fire road if it's blocked - means I'm not stripping bark beforehand and want something that isn't so sensitive that if it hits a little dirt it becomes useless. When I backpack I bring that Sven saw; great aggressive pattern on it but it's limited because of the length. Typically I won't try to cut up anything larger than 6-7" in diameter with it.

Guess what I'm saying is I'm not sure. Here at home I just use my 18" Stihl chainsaw but I don't bring it with me camping

My explanation of it is probably just the jist of it...but it has been proven to work by a lot of off roaders on TW

They do! But I have these rechargeable arms fueled by beer so...

 

Who the hell wants to cut up a downed tree with those while camping? Especially at our age, right @standard ?

 

I will look into it, although I don't think my SR5 has an LSD. Maybe it's only on newer models?

 

I need to switch to your brand of beer. Lol

 

Looking at that picture again I'm thinking a 3 footer is plenty for what I need.
