I have a 2016 Taco and just ordered the Snugtop Sport Hi-liner shell (the tallest one Snugtop makes). It won't arrive for two weeks. Anyone have advice on mounts that are compatible with the shell? I prefer a mount that uses the bed rail for stability, connecting to the bikes fork or frame (I have a road bike so the rim is not that strong for rim-supported racks). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Front wheel of and fork mount on the floor works best for me. I ride a 58 and have plenty of room once I get it backed.in past the hatch.
There are some pics on this website somewhere.
Post #4 in this thread shows my tandem rig on my old ARE shell but works for my snug-Top just as well.

I have a Saris track rail for just singles if i need to haul more than just mine.
    I use Thule Fork mounts.

I may have tweaked a few things...
So I bought Rockymounts DriveShaft Track mounts a while back to carry a cross and mountain bike. With the bed wide open they mount fine but the back wheel and frame aren’t really secure so I started thinking about campers. I realized I would probably have to mount new track lower or somehow bring the mounts down so the handlebars aren’t over the cab.

Now I haven’t had a chance to try this yet, but here was my latest idea. Bring the Driveshaft mounts out to the side tracks towards either end of the bed. Mount the bike sideways but then lift the back wheel and swing it over to the side of the bed. You should be able to then lay the frame down over the wheelwell, preferably on something to support it. This opens up options for mounting a lockable tie down that secures the rear wheel. I could also see a bed bar in the middle of the bed that the frames can rest on/lock to.

This is all assuming you can access your track with the Snugtop on.

Finally got around to mounting one of my bikes in the bed with the camper shell on as I described above. Both of the mounts would only fit on the *right side due to the lip from the camper shell, but putting both on the same side is actually the ideal position. I used the second mount to lock in a U-lock to secure the rear wheel. Or I could mount a second bike in the opposite direction with less overall security.

Now I just need to make low padded bench that the first bike lays on, with a second tier that the second bike can lay on (instead of the sleeping bags).

Interesting ... I usually just bungee our road bikes in standing up, with front wheel off (cab-high shell AND shortbed) but use fork mounts on the floor at the front, for our mountainbikes. Aside from dealing with different axle sizes (looks like your cross bike has through axles) the forward extension of drop bars and longer stem make a one-size-fits-all approach difficult for road and mountain. But not sure I’d want to wrestle my bike in sideways. Nice bike BTW!

Thanks! I love this bike, it’s the perfect any time, anywhere bike for getting around Sacramento, CA. It does have through axles and it’s very light so easy to monkey around with. That said I also noticed it is incredibly easier to monkey with the front wheel off. I anticipate doing the same with my wife’s heavier MTB will not be the same.

The Rockymount Driveshaft will only securely lock a through axle so it’s probably not worth the effort to mount road bikes this way. The main idea was to be able to load up a couple of bikes, gear, etc. and not have to be worried about the bikes getting ripped off while doing other activities or at a rest stop. So I specifically wanted a way to use these mounts with the shell on and maintain security.
