    Hey guys,

New member here. Just bought a 2005 v6 6 speed Pre Runner with 113k miles on it Thursday.
So this morning I go out to warm up the truck. Put it in neutral with the parking break on (abs and brake sensor light was on when purchased). 10 minutes later I come out and smoke is pouring out of the hood smelling like an electrical fire.

I turn it off and let it cool down (15 minute) and look everywhere trying to see if some wires caught fire but nothing. I drive it 10 miles to work and every thing "seems" OK.
Well when I go to start it up 7 hours later I put it in any gear and it just revs for the most part while barely moving.

Did I do this some how?
Anyone know what parts im gonna need for a repair (normal parts no heavy duty racing/offroad)

This forum is awesome I've already found it extremely helpful.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Check your brake master cylinder reservoir. This is also used for the clutch fluid rez, and i have heard of leaks / cracks where the clutch master cylinder feeds off of it.

If it cracked and you got air in the clutch line it could of messed things up.

Welp just heard from my mechanic. $767.16 for clutch kit, flywheel resurfaced and labor.
Crappy way to start a new relationship but I guess things can only get better from here...or one would hope.

Might consider an aftermarket clutch and a new vs resurfaced flywheel, esp after that torture.

Maybe someone can chime in on whether the trans oil should be replaced too.

Also, why did this happen? If it was in neutral and the clutch burned up bc it was engaged, something else is amiss.

That's the first thing I thought of. Maybe you were actually in gear! If the clutch was already old and thin I could see it slipping for ten mins while you were in the house.

Im almost certain it was in neutral (with ebrake)while idling and not in gear with with the ebrake on. Looks like Repair pal says the avg cost is $1068-1163 in my area so it sounds like my mechanic is giving me a good deal on the full job. Thanks for the replies gents.

On the bright side it should be done on Tuesday and UPS will be droping these babies off at the same time.

If it was in gear and slipping so bad it didn’t stall, that clutch was toast anyway.

Seriously consider the new flywheel. Yours is likely to have some deep cracks that a resurfacing won’t fix.
