    Hey guys,

So I'm new to Tacoma's and the world of trucks and had some questions about fitments. I've been doing my research on forums, videos, and talking to friends and thought I'd post a thread myself just to feel comfortable about what I plan on doing to my specific Tacoma.

I've got a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off Road SB 4x4 Double Cab. I want to run Toyo Open Country M/T 285/75/17 tires on them. Now I know with the 75, I would need to do some trimming and a cab mount chop.

Now with this tire size in mind, I want to know the ideal lift set up. I was planning on running a Rough Country 3in. suspension lift w/front and rear extended shocks. Is this good? I don't want to do anything crazy; I might do a stage 3 or 4 ICON lift later down in the future. But for now I don't plan on running a crazy set up.

Is it necessary to install a 1in. body lift as well, or will the suspension lift of 3in. along with some trimming and frame chop allow me to clear with minimal to no rubbing?

As far as wheels, I plan on running ICON's REBOUND (17x8.5; BS: 4.75; 0mm offset). Does anyone have experience with these wheels? Are wheel spacers necessary at all even?

My ultimate goal is to run the ICON's and have them wrapped in the Open Country's; I just need to know if this 3in. suspension lift lit w/trimming and modification will allow me to run them okay and if a 1in. body lift is necessary?

    Thanks guys,
    Ray

You mean 285/70r17 and the rough country lifts are just spacer and block lifts. Nothing wrong with them and hundreds of thousands of people run there kits. They work fine. You can do alot better though for alittle more money with a toytec/OME/Bistien lift

You also may need to trim alittle, every truck is different. They clear my truck with no rubbing and very little trimming with 3” lift

Welcome to TW. You have a lot of research to do. Tires are easy. You need to research wheel offset and back spacing in the wheels and tires forum sticky. You also need to check out the suspension forum of TacomaWorld.

As with any other vehicle, lifts lead to other possible issues that you need to be aware of. And putting on 285's isn't as easy as it sounds. Research my friend.

I was thinking of running 285/70/17, but I saw some 285/75/17 on a Tacoma and loved the look/stance of it which is why I decided to go with a 75 and not a 70. I was also looking at the Bilstein 5100 shocks as well. What do you recommend for a 3in. lift with this tire/wheel set up?

That's the only drawback to doing a lift instead of an ICON Stage 3 or 4. I've been on the fence between the options.

it will be more than a cmc and "little trimming" to fit 285/75/17's. Like mentioned in a previous post rim width, backspacing and offset will play a huge factor. As for lift, stay away from spacers if your going to do any offroading. Buy once, cry once.
