Are you running a bed cover with that rack? I want a rack that can hold an RTT but I'd like to have a cover for some things too

Go get it. If it's an ARE DCU, it's a very well made shell. Static (non-moving) roof weight limit on mine was 800 lbs. I routinely stood on top (on the spots where the internal frame was, not the bare skin) and it was SOLID. I regret selling it.

Thanks for the reply, any pros and cons if you have the time. Is it as close to the cab that it will go? Did u have the inside insulated at all? These things r very well made. Would have to add a window if I get this one on the sides. Anyway thanks for the reply, and the replacement, awwww hell yeah, falling into a dream state now, thanks man

I am a hardshell cap guy. Sorry, need to tote kayaks and bicycles and need to be able to lock up wet SCUBA gear or camping gear and a few times sleep in them to at least give me a little breathing room to load up the Marlin if a griz comes knocking.

I regret selling mine. I even contacted the guy I sold it to a few months later to see about getting it back but he already started his RTT build. Mine was carpeted on the inside, but no additional insulation. I have really good camping gear and with the short bed, I had to sleep with the tailgate open, so insulation wouldn't even be worth it for me.

You think you need side windows, but really, I got used to it very quickly having no rear visibility and am really good at using my mirrors. Yes, it is as close to the cab as it will go. They are designed completely vertical on the front and rear, so it will not be flush or line up with the rear of the cab (unless you have the regular cab).

Another reason to get a commercial shell is that they are WAY more secure (especially with no windows) than the fiberglass ones you can crack open with a hammer. I live in a high crime area and have left ALL of my camping gear inside, parked on the street without worrying that anyone would break in.

CON: Some people think it's ugly. Expensive to buy new.
PRO: It's ALL function and it's still lightweight for the strength!

This looks fun. I would just want to have a sled(snowmobile) in the trailer and a Four Wheel Camper in the bed.

If you go with the shell and rack route make sure the shell can support the weight you want before buying. And maybe look into getting a reinforced one. The one that came on my truck cannot be used to carry my RTT safely due to the weight rating so I am investing in a cheap bed rack to carry the tent during the camping months and put the cap back on during winter. My experience anyways.

I posted a link earlier, but fine. Here. You'd have no idea that I had thousands of dollars of gear inside the truck on my week+ long trips posted below:

My truck came with a color matched shell, so im gunna rock it until i have a garage to store it lol

I was wondering (for you guys with RTT's), Im concerned about moisture and such. Say, your camping in gnarly weather, and you wanna pack up and move camp in the storm. Folding/packing your RTT would leave it all nasty inside right? Especially if you never aired it out after the trip. Ive seen a buddy ruin a $850 tent because he didnt take care of it. Im just wondering if i want to deal with the hassle since i like to camp in inclement weather. :crapstorm:
