    Yes, A malfunction. :)

    Seriously it could be a million things. Take it to an Autozone or another parts house that does free code scans and have them read the code from the on board diagnostics. Then come back with the code or codes and we will try and help.

    My crank case breather came loose, did the same exact thing. It will also do it if the fuel cap is left off.

    My guess is the gas cap... check that first. Did you park on any kind of hill or incline?
