Folks this is off topic but I'm going to post it here anyway...
OK Tacoma owners, and anyone else reading this thread, Sub-Par, one of our TW family members from NY, just lost their home to fire - a total loss. Thankfully the family wasn't home but the two family cats were lost in the fire. If ANYONE wants to help them financially PM me and I will tell you how you can do this. 100% legit.

No disrespect but why not make a new thread. This is derailing the subject matter and seems like the wrong place. Asking for donations when people are looking to decide if they want to buy a tune is simply annoying. It's like those people that try to get money out of you outside of grocery stores, liquor stores, Costco, etc etc etc.

I’m curious if you use the 87octane flash if you can still use things like Seafoam or Lucas in your gas? Will this affect or be bad for the engine? May be a dumb question, but ... curious.

Pull up your device manager when you’re getting those errors. If you see exclamation points in the guardant section, your drivers aren’t fully working. It’s a start. I’d grab a screenshot for you but no laptop at the moment.

You will be fine. Those are fuel additives not octane boosters so it should not effect the engine in a negligible way.

I would retrace your steps to be certain. Open pcm flash and download the drivers and make sure they are succesfully installed. Also make sure your computer is up to date, missing or outdated drivers could be causing USB issues

Flashed the truck yesterday! It took less than a day to get my license key.

I had no issues installing the drivers or flashing the truck. When it comes down to it, I think it's only around 3 button clicks. Lol I write software for a living so maybe I just felt more comfortable, even though I've never flashed a vehicle before.

My heart did skip a few beats while watching the flash. Not seeing any surge issues outside of what happens on stock tune. I let it idle for 15 mins and no issues with idle either.

I LOVE the tune, thanks Matt! Read my review on the poll thread. I've used both SSP and Sprintbooster. Any questions welcome.

I had the same issue. are you sure you have the dongle and not the ODBII reader plugged in? it's the tiny black thumb drive, this was my issue...

Even if they were octane boosters, that would still be okay because you can safely run a higher octane with a lower octane map. The big no-no is running significantly lower octane than what your map calls for

For anyone else reading this, I'm not talking about running 86 on your 87 map. I mean running 87 on your 91 map

Yes I was in the same boat as you. I liked that the truck would go into over drive sooner for MPG, and I never really had an issue with the "dance" between gears... but I wanted better throttle control and more power so I got the tune. 90% of the driving is better, the real issue is when you're on a long steep hil and you want to gently increase your power... it doesn't want to go... little more throttle... still kinda nothing... lot more throttle... boom bat out of hell! I think it'll just take a bit more driving to get used to.

That being said... I drove all throughout the front range, 255 miles, 40-70mph and averaged 20mpg even with the hills. I haven't made that drive before so can't directly compare to before the tune... but I was expecting 17 or 18. I'll give it a couple more tanks before I give my full review.

My fuely link in my sig shows every fill up from purchase, I filled up just before flashing and haven't filled up again yet. but should be able to see the data in black in white there (I'm stock tires, no lift, do have my RTT but it's below cab hight)

This is the problem with tuning, if the truck is stock and there's no way of changing it... you live with it.

When tuning comes in you drive it and think "This could be better, that could be better"... Everyone is different, you all have different suspension, tires, weight... he can't possibly make it work for everyone.

Personally on my (mostly) stock truck it's amazing, not perfect, but immeasurable better than the stock tune.

So Matt still hasn't told us about the big news yet, right? I've been out driving around enjoying my tune and not paying attention.... only to see dozens of pages of new posts lol

Absolutely. not only are all our trucks different, we drive in different terrain, but we also all have different ideas of what "perfect" is, and what order we place the stats in, in terms of priority, (over all HP above all vs MPG above all vs Towing vs Off roading)

no he hasn't. I think he still has the 18' tunes to send out, the "who cares about MPG" tune to post, and the "big news" still to update us all on. but judging by how many people here got their tunes, and how many recently ordered (he's not going to Hong Kong now) he's probably flooded with e-mails asking how to do this or that, and when is my order going to ship.

Ya I saw the 18 tune and the flash manager was out, I'm rocking my '16 with 87 octane tune and loving it!

Loaded the tune on Saturday evening on my 2018 OR with a 3" lift and 33s. In the first 80 or so miles I have driven in that time I am blown away by how much different this truck is. I have had all sorts of different tuned performance vehicles and this tune is as much of a drastic change as anything else I have owned! The power band is so much more linear and smooth and now even with the lift and bigger tires I am able to sit in 6th gear at ~70mph and only down shifts into 5th to gain speed on inclines. This tune was worth every penny and I am glad I didn't wait longer to buy it. I will be putting a longer review in the review thread once I get some more miles on it.

Yep. What you focus your attention on becomes the most important thing. That combined with the fact that new events (bad or good) are never as great or as bad as our expectations make them out to be, and our psychology is to return back to the emotional average. It's one of those annoying byproducts of human psychology that also makes us great explorers, builders, inventors, creators. Just annoying how it also makes contentment just right over the next horizon...

All that is to say, I knew going into this that after the tune if I wasn't careful I'd start nitpicking. I set out as a personal goal that once I got the tune, however it behaved, as long as it improved the issues I had with stock and didn't add any major or significant problems, I would turn the music up and put it out of mind.
