Ripped off all four mudflaps. Scratches all down both sides 6112’s up front on 3rd notch 5100’s in back with Toytech 1” block Skids & sliders from SOS Concepts I got rid of the 1” block and put on Wheelers 1 1/2” progressive AAL. SPC UCA. Be sure your standing on the drivers side when reading the instructions! I swapped sides so many times that I can swap UCA’s in 15 minutes. I put in the 3/4” spacer to eliminate the Taco Lean, and just got my 4th alignment. Traded the OEM rims for 17” Sport rims and a bora bora 1” spacer. I got my Firestone 285/70/17 MT2’s. Pelfreybilt gas tank skid and hi-lift jack should be here Friday. Looking at bumpers, but I think they will wait for next year. So far I’m happy with my build. I’ve done it all myself, leading to a lot of cussing and frustration, but it’s all mine.
I’ve seen a lot of for and against lift blocks, but I haven’t really found out the reasons why some are against them. I will be pulling a camping trailer, and I will be going off road.
Can anyone tell me from personal experience why I shouldn’t use a 1” block?

The only real plus is that they are cheap, and easy to install.

The down is that they can increase axle wrap because you are increasing the distance between the axle and spring, which creates more leverage. Blocks also don't really do anything about sagging from heavy weights. It might LOOK level when you attach your trailer, but that's just because it started higher - it's still sagging just as much.

If you are going to be loading it down with trailer weight, and going off-road, IMO ditch the idea.

For trailers, IMO the best option are airbags, since you can adjust them for when you don't have a load on them (as opposed to helper springs or add-a-leafs which just make the ride stiff unless you have a heavy load on them). For offroading, though, I'm honestly not sure how airbags would hold up, or affect the handling or wheel travel.

But you might want to look into something like the All-Pro Expo springs, which are made for heavier loads (overlanders), so the springs may be stiff if you don't have a load, but would likely handle the trailer weight well, and being All-Pro, are designed for off-road.

You're going to need to compromise somewhere. But, IMO, I wouldn't compromise everything, just to go cheap.

I did a lift with Bilstein 5100's around and blocks. After about a year of mostly daily driving I decided I didn't like the blocks, went back and got AALs. When I picked up the truck from ORW who did the install, the guy said, "Good thing we did this. Both blocks were cracked."

I ran 1 inch blocks for about a month and a half before going to a 1.5 AAL, I’d say go with the AAL
