Question for you remote resi fanboys:

What’s the benefit of remote reservoir shocks (of the King/Icon/ADS variety) over high quality performance monotube shocks such the Bilstein B110 and B6112?

Especially for the type of wheeling that we generally do here in the NE (RC, AAOA and similar.)

Is there a big enough performance difference for me to switch?

If so, I think I can find some spare change in my couch and my wife can pick the rest of it off our money tree.

 

There is the same benefit to them as baja style running. It all depends on the valving. The adjusters just fine tune the valving. More oil capacity=better cooling

 

So in the NE, with the slow to moderate speed wheeling at RC/AAOA there’s no real performance benefit over a performance monotube design? Is there a need for greater oil capacity for better cooling?

If for some inexplicable reason we need more shock cooling to prevent brake fade at RC, is the bigger shock body of the Bilstein B6112 (above avg oil capacity) enough to cool the shock?

I’m starting to find a lot of spare change in my money couch for this shock absorber upgrade. Skool me so I can convince the wifey.

 

I run the trails up here at full speed. You must not be doing it right.

Down South Motorsport recommends mono tube for the wheeling we do.
You can replace the mono tube for less than a rebuild on the king reservoirs. The only time you will notice a difference is if your racing on washboards. Save the cash and get a monotube.yoll be fine

 

I have The adjusters and haven't touched them yet. I do want to do a nice rocky hill climb. And play with the click adjusters and see if I feel a difference.

 

That's what I wanted to hear! What's the average average price for rebuilt of Kings?

 

I haven't done mine. But they say 50,000 is what u should get out of the shocks b4 the rebuild.

Then you’re right, if you buy a new pair of Bilsteins at same time interval as a rebuild, then it’s break even.

 

I guess 200 is not too much to spend a v40 50,000 miles or so, but need to keep my original shocks and maybe get spacers for the meantime...
I was quoted a good deal for Kings the only thing there is four to six-week wait time right now. But that good price it still pretty much twice the price of 6112 , which at this point are unavailable (except toytec, where they are quite overpriced at this point, and no coupon codes).

I waited 3 months. Why because of the 700lb springs. But damn it was worth the wait. And they look so pretty!!

 

Are there any other good trails besides RC and AOAA?? Something closer to New York so I dont have to drive 4 hours each way.

 

Is there Facebook groups you can check out? Some guys go wheeling in North Jersey.
