In case anyone ever wants to do a bed like this... The tricky part is figuring out the dimensions.. particularly the length of each slat. You have to use a little algebra. The goal is to make it the desired width when opened and the minimum width when closed. I put together this document to help someone if they want to make their own. If you're doing something with a different width bed, you could easily replace 54" width with any other width and use the same process.

You can plug in the dimensions of your wood and the formulas will tell you how long to make your slats

There is a 6x12 on craigslist for really cheap... But I can't fit all of our stuff into the trailer xD Maybe if it was a gooseneck.

You've made me rethink my bed design. I was going to just build a permanent queen sized frame wall to wall(whenever I actually start this project...). This is a way better idea!

Check it out... See anything new?

If you look close.. you'll see... a door handle! Now my trailer door can function like a normal door. I never want to put a door handle in another trailer again. Huge pain in the butt to cut out the slots for the door to function. The metal is very thick and there's not much room to work. However, now that it is all said and done, it works perfect.

In the pic below, you can see how I had to mount the strike plate. Because of how the door lines up, the latch didnt reach the strike plate. So the strike plate is mounted protruding a bit, but it works perfectly.

Video where you can see how perfect the door handle works:

I heard you know a guy named Todd, a family friend of mine who has a taco. He happened upon my thread by accident without knowing it was my trailer!

He is apparently on here but I don't know if he has an account. I don't want to post his personal info but he says you installed sliders for him

That’s awesome!! I’ve done over 100 sets of sliders in the last couple years so it’s hard for me to remember everyone’s names haha.

The only Todd that I can remember right off the top of my head is KTM Todd

Well that is understandable, I don't think he'd be KTM Todd (I'm assuming that's a user here)

No, I will gladly sit back with a beer and read your posts about it though. Lol.

What made it so tough was that the door edge is made up of steel tubing AND a heavy duty piece of steel angle back to back. I screwed up the weather stripping while trying to drill out metal. It was a really tough space to work in and try to remove such thick metal. I had to cut through a huge section for the latch and deadbolt to fit through.

I figured. Did you use a center drill first or just full metal drill bit straight in?

I drilled it out with progressively larger bits. I used a pneumatic cut off wheel to try and connect the holes, but I couldn't fit it close enough to the lip of the door. I basically used my cordless drill and drill bits for most of it.

Move the fenders up on the body, fill the old holes, spray the wheel wells to cover, done...

Sounds good, but not that simple .. they are welded to the underside of the frame. It can be done, but also have to consider moving them up, they start to interfere with the door. There's also only a couple inches between the spare and the fender and the clearance light is mounted on it. They rub the back slope of the fender only. I have two weeks to finish everything and solve this.

I am thinking I'm going to fender off the trailer in the rear, cut the miter of the fender and then try to stretch it out to open the fender more.
