I have been doing my own oil changes since my truck has been new. I wanted to make sure it was done right and used the kind of oil I wanted.

Anyway, I was browsing on here and saw about greasing the drive line. I have never done this, or even have a grease gun for that matter.

So, I stop by Toyota the other day and make an appointment to get the drive line greased. It was toward the end of the day, and after work for me, so the service adviser goes back to ask the techs if they can get me in.

He comes back and tells me he talked to two different techs and both said the drive line is sealed and there is nothing to grease.

So I tell him, Ive been reading that it needs to be lubed. So, he tells me to go home, crawl under there, and if it has any grease fittings, to come back and he would be sure to get me in.

Anyway, crawled under there and saw several grease fittings. Im going back tomorrow to talk to him about it.

Anyway, does anyone know the exact amount of fittings to be greased on a 2015 model?

The second question is...I have the TRD Off Road model with no hood scoop. I asked the parts guy about ordering a hood scoop off a Sport model and having it put on my truck. He told me the Sport had a different hood that was recessed where the scoop goes and I would have to buy an entire new Sport hood and scoop, if I wanted one.

I wanted to check with you guys to see if that is truly how it is, or is it possible to fit just the hood scoop of a Sport onto my Off Road hood that came with no scoop?

    Thanks

Color matched door handles, Weathertech floor liners, bed mat, Durafit seat covers, tailgate clamp, 2016 TRD Sport 17" wheels with Yokohama Geolander AT tires , Toyota exhaust tip, Toyota/Yakima bike rail mount, Toyota wheel locks, Toyota hitch cover, Redline hood struts, unifilter on air pump.
You should have 5 total grease fittings. 2 on the front shaft and 3 on the rear. You do need an entire new hood to get the Sport hood scoop.

You have to buy a whole new hood. The hood skewp hood is raised up to allow the skewp to fit in. The TRD Off Road hood is completely flat.

I would not take your truck to a dealer with incompetent morons in the service dept.

Any ol shop can grease the driveline.

    yep..
You can get a grease gun and a tube of grease for 25$ then you know it's being done properly.

What blew my mind was the “stick your head under there and look” response.

That would have made my head spin off into outerspace if he said that to me.

Why not buy a cheap grease gun and do it yourself. It's easy. Stick the nozzle on the zerk fitting and a couple pumps of grease will be fine. And now you have a tool you can use forever.

The ones that will work for peanuts. Obviously not very good. They don't want to pay good techs to stick around. This is a universal truth.
