I am installing an amp today and have a question.
When running the speaker wires, do I just tap into the factory wires or do I need to run the wires all the way to the speaker terminals an not use the factory wires at all??

You’ll have to run new ones at some spot. You’ll have a set from head unit to the amp and then amp to speakers.

I'm running RCA cables from the head unit to the amp. So, I need to go into the door and to the speakers with all new wires?? Will all the factory controls still work?? (i.e. steering wheel controls)

Is it the factory head unit? If so, stock controls should still work. If it’s aftermarket you’ll need to run a new harness to retain the steering wheel controls. You should be able to use the factory speaker wires still, I’m not sure they’ll reach the amp tho depending on your mounting location. And you’ll definitely need to cut the connectors off the factory wires to connect to the amp.

    Factory or aftermarket head unit?

    1. You can run new wires from the amp to each speaker.

2 You can go behind the radio and get the speaker wires from the radio harness and run them to the amp.

    To add to this:
    1. Depending on the power of the amp and the speakers, this would be the correct way (although more time consuming)
    2. This is where having the reverse radio harness and the regular Toyota radio harness for after market radio may be useful. You wire constant (yellow), switch (red), ground (black), illumination (orange), antenna/amp (blue/blue white) wires based on colors. Then you take the speaker wires from the back of the head unit and put them into a line out converter to RCA to your amp or if your amp has speaker level inputs. Then from the amp you can take the output wires and wire those to the vehicle speaker harness which feeds to the speakers.

    3. If your door panels are off and are going to replace speakers, spend the time and just wire from amp to speakers, (less wire)
