Overheated prior to purchase....help

    3" body 2.5" spacer
    so just got the truck ready to be worked on. Check oil, didn’t look as oily as I wished I’ll post a picture. Prev owner said he had a shop do the head gasket and 12 miles later it overheated. Well, the coolant tank appears clean, meaning the coolant in it appears clean. There isn’t any fluid in the radiator upon taking the cap off. I was able to turn motor over with breaker bar on the balancer bolt. I hooked up a battery and just my luck the starter bendix is stuck and it just spins. So, aside from fixing or replacing starter, how would one tackle this. If it’s a bad gasket can I simply buy a new one and replace old, should I buy a new head and gasket set, pull head and bring it to shop, just trying to figure out where to go from here
