On a recent fishing trip to Mexico we took my sons full size Dodge. Truck was so comfortable I never had to get out during my 6 hours behind the wheel. Got home and a day later I was in the ICU with 4 blood clots in my lungs and 2 still in my legs from sitting so long.

Thank you Toyota!!! These Tacoma seats suck so bad I can't go more then a couple of hours without getting out and stretching. Basically saving my life. Who knew???

Don’t forget the other features of our trucks that benefit us:

Poor gas mileage = forces us to drive efficiently
Low power = prevents us from speeding
Bad leaf springs = prevent us from overloading our trucks thereby making them dangerous to drive
Lots of noises/vibrations = prevents us from falling asleep while driving
Bad stock radio/speakers = prevents us from playing music too loud thereby damaging our eardrums

Our trucks really watch out for us with all these features.

I think the bigger question here is...why can't you sit still for 6 hours without nearly dying?

edit: I was assuming this thread was a joke, but if not...glad you're okay OP. My mother had a blood cot that nearly took her life and it was terrifying.

Hahaha. I actually like the truck well, except for the sucky seats!!!

Apparently, according to the doc...I've got old enough that my blood thickens up, and really bad if inactive for that long. Heck, I've driven from NC back to AZ, twice in 1.5 days and other long road trips and never an issue. Had to stop and buy a pad to put in one of the tacomas before by back screamed mommy, but never this little experience.

In addition to my Tacoma I have a F-150 Supercrew. It is more comfortable, but I don't think the Tacoma seats are that bad. In May of 2016 my wife and I drove the Tacoma in my Avatar from GA to the Grand Canyon, up into Utah and then back home. We were gone almost 2 weeks, but the on the last leg of the trip we drove just under 1000 miles in 19 hours to get home. My wife drove about 2 hours of that.

I've heard of the condition you refer to. During the 2nd gulf war a TV correspondent imbedded with one of the military units died from this. Those guys were on the move constantly with no chance for breaks.

Yeah, with 4 clots in my lungs and 2 still in my right leg at the time, the doc says I was very fortunate to jet myself to the ER, or it could have been lights out.

Funny thing is...within an hour of being home from that trip and before the pain started I got looking for solutions to these taco seats. All kinds of post on multiple Toyota forums about folks feeling the same as me on these seats. If you have Low back issues, these seats feel like your butt drops into a hole, putting lots of pressure right on that low back. Murder...well except when it's saving your life.

Odd. I'm not big, nor small... I'm 5' 10" and weigh about 192. I find the Tacoma seats pretty damn comfortable and I've driven mine over 47,000 miles. Drove my wife's Mercedes for a couple hours today and thought my truck seats were more comfortable.

Dude. What the hell were the symptoms that made you go to the ER? I spend long hours in the seat and am worried now.

Do some butt cheek flexing while driving. Circulates the blood, and keeps Hank Hill at bay.

    yep..
Glad to hear youre doing ok. DVT/PE is scary stuff. Sounds like you should be on thinners permanently. I agree these seats suck. My lower back kills if I sit for more than a half hour. Just tried raising the rear of the seat and it helped a bit, still needs more though.

Soon after getting my '09 DCSB I found that the backward slope of the seat base was what was killed my back, and try as I might I could not find any angle setting for the seat back to make it any better.

The seating position was like on of those damned Adirondack chairs--which I have never found to be comfortable--so I set out to lift the backend of the seat base.

I made two spacers of 1-1/4" aluminum round stock, each 32 mm long, then purchased two 60 mm (32 mm longer than OEM) class 10.9 bolts to clamp things back together:

THe M10 x 1.5 OEM bolts are tapered to an 8 mm x 1.5 tpi tip--no doubt to assist in locationing during assembly. I found that just turning them to 8 mm ∅ accomplished the same and made locating the boLts into the captive nuts much easier:

The end result is a much improved seating position that does not strain my back. Drove to Key West and back (940 miles RT) shortly after making this change with no seat comfort issues...

Man that is funny and so true but not really funny. I just threw my back out this last Saturday overdoing it and if I have to be in my truck for any amount of time driving around during the day right now absolutely kills my lower back.

I don't find my SR5 seats amazingly comfy at all. But I drove 11 hrs between Moab and home four separate times. Don't recall feeling especially uncomfortable.

Grateful not to be prone to clots at this point in life though!

I'm about the same size. I think when you have low back issues as I've had all my life, the drop down in the seat butt area puts pressure on the spine and if you've got issues there...yowsa.

Conditions were as stated. Never had the issue before, but the doc said he's see. Folks in there 20's get blood clots after sitting too long, let alone folks in their early 60's. It was NOT fun!!!

And I've tried the seat spacer thing on my other tacos. This one has leather seating and has been marginally more comfortable until just recently. I went to the hardware store yesterday and got some longer bolts for the back and put about 5/8" big washers under them to get it up. It does help. I feel like I need just a little more cushion at that "hole" area. Going to try various thicknesses of foam there.

It's actually your legs/toes that need flexed. Clots typically start in your legs where the end of the pump line is and then move up.

Symptoms??? It felt like a horse had kicked me in the rib and broke it. Turns out one of the biggest clots was right on top of the rib there. Doc told me to quit pushing on it, and force it up into my heart...ooohhhh.
