I thought I read somewhere the 3rd Gen's use a 3" speaker as a Tweeter, would there be enough room in that opening to install a mid range speaker? Then the Tweeter of a 3-way system could be installed in the pillar next to it.

Would this set up sound good?

I saw the 2nd Gen with the mid in the pillar, that looked really nice much better than what I could pull off .

I'm in the planning stages right now and am looking into three way components in vehicles for the first time. Are the Focal more expensive then they used to be because they are discontinued? I thought they were under $1k before. Is there another good source on speaker reviews? I saw JL makes a 3 way component set. Are 3 ways even worth it?

There are many great brands out there. Illusion, audiofrog, focal, hertz etc. What kind of system are you trying to install? Will you be install a signal processor?

I thought this was in a 2nd Gen, this is the truck I was referencing, looks so nice, great work .

I honestly didn't know I wouldn't be able to use a passive crossover.

Thanks, I'll check these brands out. What do you mean what kind of system though, well balanced I guess? Currently have a 4 channel Eclipse amp, Rockford sub amp and a $300 pair of Pioneer component speakers. Most likely leaning toward the JL Stealth Box for a sub. Originally i wasn't planning on installing a signal processor but may not be a bad idea considering I intend to use the stock head unit for a bit though I've never actually heard line out convertors.

There are different type of systems out there. SQ (sound quality) or SPL which is more bass oriented. Using the stock HU is fine as long as you can tune out the signal coming from it.

Here is a 3rd gen build. You will noticed he used coax speakers in the stock dash location. Let me know if you cant see the pics for any reason.

Here is also another helpful thread for your audio needs. Hybrid is a good brand also and you can pick up a whole kit from Mr Marv

That is a nice build, good to know they will fit. Looks like they are only part of a 2way system though, how do you add door speakers and balance them? Do the speakers need to match?

Maybe I will get a line out converter with that can tune as well then like pic below.

I have seen Mr. Marv's name a time or too looking at other builds, may have to hit him up.
