Interior traffic advisory wiring

Hey guys, so I picked up this traffic adviser because more often then not I find myself in a situation where I am not visible to traffic that is behind me when I am either in my truck or out of it on the street/highway helping accident patients.

My truck IS NOT A POV, I am just an EMT who happens to stumble upon a lot of accidents and after almost getting ran over during the last incident, i figured installing a traffic adviser would make me more visible.

Basically wondering where I could tap in the wiring system

 

There's a fuse box under the driver's side under the dash, you can tap into there.

 

Where are you planning to mount it? I think that will help trying to find a good spot to 12v and signal sources from.

I wired my chase bar up pretty easy, so I should be able to help you.

 

On the interior of the rear window, facing towards traffic that is behind me, optimally I'd also need it to work even when the truck is off (in case the engine being on would be a cause for ignition of any gas/fuel)

 

Good call on scene protection. Hadn't thought of that. I'd wire it straight to the battery then with some ring terminals. Maybe look at a bluesea fuse block as well if you have more additions planned in the future?

at 30W / 3.5 amps, you could even just find a always hot fuse in the dash or in the engine bay to tap into as well.

 

Mehhhh, I didnt feel like running the wires all the way to the front, but I guess I don't have any other choice as it seems

 

I don't have any knowledge to offer input but once you figure out a solution, I'd love to hear it. I'm in the exact same boat as you and would really have benefit from this

 

I see you have two LED pods in the back of your truck, where did you wire them in?

 

Drilled behind the weather stripping, pushed the wires through and ran them along the headliner, through the firewall, and under the hood. It was a bitch and I'd prefer to avoid doing it again if I can lol

You actually jarred my memory that I do have a solution, just would prefer an easier one

 

LOL! Yes, I would prefer to avoid drilling any holes in the roof! Maybe I can do the same, but since I am already on the inside, all I gotta do is run them through the headliner or under the carpet

 

There will be a constant 12v slot in your fuse box in the dash. Run the wire along the headliner to the front pillar cover and down into the dash by the fuse box. Use a fuse tap to connect into the fuse panel and mount your switch.

 

I installed these to my blue sea fuse block...they are strobes

 

Unfortunately that’s the case. There are no 12v non switched sources near the back of cab. Nearest access will be dashboard. But as @Gunshot-6A suggested, I would consider putting in a fuseblock to make future expansions very easy. Especially when you add those front lights, spot beams, etc...

 

I got all my forward facing lights wired in under the hood and hooked up to a wireless relay... So I bypass having to fish them through the cabin to hook em up to physical buttons... Although, that is what I plan on doing eventually because the switches are on a key and having buttons is fool-proof rather than having issues preventing me from turning the lights on/off (just need someones help who knows what they're doing to help).

there are some ready made solutions out there (look at the vendors around here, like CaliRaised, etc.) that make this a pretty straight forward bolt/connect and go solution.

I've got it fastened to my middle headrest support bars, then pushed the headrest all the way down to rest on top of the bar. the other two headrests are just pushed down on top of the bar - sadly they don't have notches to hold it in place...

the wire is ran down the passenger side , just slid behind the plastic molding to the floor, then under the step molding (not sure what you call those pieces?) all the way to the front and currently have it tied to my 12v accessory outlet. so right now i don't have it on a constant yet. Now that it's starting to get warm out i'm planning to tap into the fuse box under the drivers side to feed the accessory outlet.
