Interesting thread. I have a '11 Tacoma SR5 V6, and have been thinking about replacing it with a Tundra. The Taco does everything I want it to, but you know how we are. The Tundra's gas mileage isn't that big of a factor; I work from home, so only put 10-12K on annually. Back in '08, I sold my '93 Toyota P/U, (pre Taco days), so I could buy a FJ Cruiser. Dumbest auto related decision I've ever made, got rid of it to get the '11 Taco. I usually keep my vehicles a long time, (15 years for the '93), so want to make sure.

After owning a 15 Taco and now a 18 tundra, I can honestly say I’ll probably never own a taco again. Like stated above, it’s hard to imagine the same company put these two together. The tundras fit and finish to me is so much better. Plus all of the fun things that come with it.

Looking at the same decision right now. Getting tired of the cramped space in the Tacoma, especially for work trips or road trips with the wife. I like Fords too but there are about 10 F150s in my 20-spot parking lot and I’ve had great luck with Toyota so far. Wish there was a factory Tundra that offered good ground clearance and a mean stance. Not making the TRD Pro anymore, right?

    So?
Just make your own for about $10k less.

Yeah, I get it. But as you get older and have more money and less time, sometimes you just want to buy instead of build.

Lol. I can't bring myself to by anything that isn't broke. All my rides were wrecks bought at auction. I just can't pay full price.

Yep. My ‘18 Tundra had a DSI conversion done on it. I probably paid just a bit more than the dealers charge for the TSS package they slap on Tundras in the Gulf Coast dealer network, and I like the look a lot better.

That would be pretty much the look I’m going for. Nice.

Great thread! Newbie here...I have a built 2003 Land Rover Discovery that I am selling and want to get either a Tacoma or Tundra mostly for reliability. The 2nd gen Tundra is too big for my purposes (trails, extended camping along said trails, and daily driver)
What about the first gen Tundra? Seems just as small as the Tacoma's and a lot less money as a newer Tacoma. But...how does the first gen Tundra preform off-road? If they are so bulletproof as everyone says...then I could save 10-15K over a newer Tacoma!

I have a '10 Tundra crewmax I special ordered, wanted a crewmax with the bench front seat, has 42k miles on it, never been back to the dealer, only done oil changes, new wheels and tires and new brakes. I like the truck but it is so huge, it is a pain to take anywhere, I live in the northeast where there is a lot of people any malls or places my kids play sports is always a challenge when I take the Tundra. I also have a 4 door Wrangler so I drive that everywhere. Recently I have been thinking of getting a '18 Tacoma, I have had many new Toyota trucks in the past. My concerns with going with the Tacoma is the rear seat will be too small for my two kids and dog, kids are 11 and 14, dog is around 40 pounds, the Jeep rear seat is okay, but from just a quick look the Tacoma rear seat looks smaller. Not sure what to do...

Everybody seems to state what a PITA the Tundra is about town. My other concerns is how are they off-road. My worry with a Tacoma is the small bed space...but, the long box would seen to have enough.

They suck off road. I ran mine thru the trails 1 time. Never again. The Tacoma is perfect for running the trails.

How are Tundras in winter? Traversing 6” of snow is more of a concern than fitting down trails here in MO. My Tacoma’s 265mm tires seem to float on the snow and let me get around when other full size trucks seem to be bogging down and getting stuck.

Honestly, I can't decide which is better in the snow. I've ran both my Tacoma and the Tundra this year in 6" of snow and snowy roads. They both are satisfactory.

koditten...Thanks! that might be the first honest answer from a Tundra owner I've heard as yet. If I can ever sell my Disco, I'm going for a long bed Tacoma with canopy/sleeping area with plans of a Flip-pac eventually.

That would be my choice as well. The long bed is a requirement for me.

I had a Tacoma Dbl cab for about 10 yrs. I loved it off road and in the snow as well as fitting in tight spots around town. I bought a Tundra CrewMax in July and love it for different reasons. The room is excellent and the power is outstanding. But at times I miss my Taco. I have 3 kids 13, 10 & 4 so the room in the Tundo is needed. With that being said the next truck I purchase will be in 9-10 yrs and will probably be a Tacoma.

Mine has been fine in the snow, tires choice will have the most impact on how they perform in the snow. I am running BFG All Terrains on mine stock size, it is decent.

You can just get a Tacundra and have the best of both worlds.
