Hey so my 2010 4.0 taco has been cutting completely off while coasting or coming to a stop, and the check engine light would come on and go off after shutting truck off later in the day... also when i use my after market remote start it will cut off sometimes before the 20 minuet timer is off... a little background on the truck. Around 90k miles, URD true cold air intake & A/F calibrator, headers and exshaust upgrades as well. This started happening when i ran over a street sign while playing in the snow on an empty road. ♂️. I had it scanned, the mechanic said replace the MAF... did this. Still cuts off only differences is the check engine lights doesn’t come on anymore.... has anyone come across an issue like this?

Had a very similar issue on my 1st gen with the 3.4L. It took a while to narrow it down but it turns out it was the throttle position sensor. Not sure if the TPS is a common failure on the 4.0 or not but if your just throwing parts at it that's where I'd start...

Yea it’s been a while since I’ve cleaned the throttle body, I’ll check it out today and see how it’s looking.

Before i throw parts at it i wouldn’t mind driving it with a scan tool hooked up to it. Just trying to find a place that will do it. I’m a detailed Recruiter in Michigan currently

When auto trannies are low on fluid sometimes it causes the engine to bog down and even die when coming to a stop. Check that if the throttle body suggestions above don't solve it.

Will do, I’m almost positive the trans is good on fluids, since it’s a sealed trans and i flushed it around 60K myself. I just bought a scan tool so i can use it for when the issue occurs. Came up with code B2799. Looked it up and it’s something with the engine Immobilizing due to key issue. I’m going to disconnect the aftermarket remote start see if that works.

I'm 99 percent sure that aftermarket remote starter is interfering with the trucks immobilizer system, removing it is an EXCELLENT IDEA.
Just gotta ask, why would you want that thing sitting there idling for 20 minutes anyway?

I agree, this is probably the issue, ive seen alot of them interfere with newer vehicles electronics.
IDK about the op, but people install them here because its 100°+ in the summer for 6 mo straight and it makes a world of difference when you can fire up that AC 3 min before you get in (easy 120° inside if not) Also works the same for the heater in winter.

Yea i can believe that. I got it installed before the winter up here in Michigan... which blows. I’ll update once i take it off.

I got it because i moved from NC to Michigan due to the Army. I had ACL surgery in late October and wanted a way to start the truck without making trips up and down the stairs on crutches.

So i removed the aftermarket remote start. I no longer have to B2799 Engine immobilizer code. However it still cuts off when coming to a coast or stop, had it in neutral this morning at a stop sign because it felt like it was going to cut off. As soon as i put my hand on the shifter it died. There’s also a bad stutter or jerking motion while driving. This happens when staying at a contestant speed. I also forgot to mention when i start the truck i always hear fluid movement like there’s an air pocket in my coolant system. This is so damn aggravating....

Do you have a way to monitor your throttle position when it happens?

Only thing is that the scan tool will only freeze frame for so long. And this fault happens when it feels like it:confused:

    No codes huh?
Any chance there is a fuel pressure PID you can monitor while you are driving?
Your symptoms sound a lot like a fuel delivery issue.

I think so, it just blows because i can’t predict when it will happen. I bought the Actron Eilte Auto Scanner thanking it would help read it but the freeze frames only scan for like 5 or 10 minuets. Probably should of done more research before buying it.

I’ve got my scan tool hooked up to it and both long term fuel banks are reading around -17. So I’m thinking it’s an O2 problem... taking it into the dealership so they can run a test and tell me what’s up.
