Hi, I’m getting sent a full set of @Mobtown Offroad steel skids soon and am also comming up to my 10K mile service interval that includes drive train inspections and tightening, ATF level checks, etc.

I know Toyota wont have to take off the front skid to do the engine oil service (I was planning to bring it to them with the hatch off anyways) but do others here with full armor also take off the other two plates before servicing?

I was thinking I may have to wait when the plates arrive and put the transfer and tranny plate on after the 10k service

    Thanks!

I’ve had bad past experiences regarding oil changes and skid plates before. The absolutely last time I went to... one place that advertises they do lubes in a jiffy... they had noticeable trouble getting my skid plate back on my Gen 1. When I got home, I noticed they left it hanging on with just two bolts and they didnt tell me about it. I tried refitting it but couldn’t because.......... there was a oil filter wrench stuck between the plate and the oil pan!

Doh!! :homer: And double Doh! :homer::homer: on me for taking it there in the first place!

Go to the dealer lol. If you have a first gen they'll still service your truck like it's a 2017, may pay a little more they won't hack work.

Any real shop will remove them and then reinstall them.
Your quick lube places like WalMart, Jiffy, etc, might not want to work on a modified vehicle.

My 30k service with full skid package, including rear dif, the dealer removed and reinstalled mine for the front & rear dif fluid change along with transfer case change. I told them not to do the oil. BUT, they did not tighten one of them down leaving me hunting for a knock that I only found after removing the armor again and reinstalling.

We take them off ourselves before dropping the rig off for service; it’s just extra piece of mind and makes it easier to give a quick look over to make sure everything was tightened properly during the service.

Thats what I was thinking, too- at least the transmission and differential skids. The IFS skid could stay, but it does require some maneuvering around it to see all the engine parts. Im just afraid of having someone over torque a bolt and breaking a welded nut, spilling oil on them, or leaving their half-eaten sandwich up there :p
