Camping and Backpacking GEAR thread

A few, lots more first descents though. Really focused on the ski side for most of my vertical career. More packs, tents boots and bits...had to pay the bills somehow

 

just got this for my b-day. So what do use for fuel? I've heard everclear,but that's hard to get. Any ideas?

 

This uses Esbit solid fuel. Its like a tablet of gelled alcohol. Lots of sports stores have it, probably even Walmart. Often in the hunting section of larger stores.

it's also a alcohol stove..looking for fuel recommendations on fuel.besides denatured alcohol

 

Thanks for the tip on Wal-Mart having the fuel bars. Gonna grab a bunch to have on hand. If there cheap, I'll stock up big.

 

This little stove fits in my thermos. I've had it for 5 years and use it regularly. Will hold a 10" skillet stable and is super cheap $13.
NOT made in USA - waited 2-3 weeks for it to arrive.

For the liquid alcohol stove, I use denatured alcohol from any paint dept. or paint store. The out-in-the-sticks alternative is HEET from a gas station or convenience store.

 

Looks like a decent first alcohol stove. From the research I've done yellow Heet burns the cleanest as far as soot and build up on the stove jets. Walmart carries it as well as Amazon. $1.77 on Amazon.

 

Oh, I have a bunch of Swedish mess kits with the alcohol stoves.never used'em tho..

 

You are missing out. Probably get a fair price on ebay.

I’ll look into this. Heard lots of good things about thousand island lake. Planning to go maybe beginning of April. Do we have take the mammoth shuttle or was it the devils post like shuttle.

 

I picked up a copy of Backpacker magazine today. It’s their annual gear guide issue. Not surprisingly, not a single piece of equipment that I own made their list, lol.
