Ok so here it is I have a 2017 Tacoma off road with less than 6k. The transmission has always been a little rough pulling it out of park, I suspected this was just a new car thing. When I say rough it is a little sticky on ANY kind of incline or decline. The other day I pulled it into drive rolled about 40 feet and heard a little clunk, nothing to bad.

    and here it gets weird...

After the clunk I turned the radio off and just was trying to listen as I drove. I was at a stop (slight incline) and when I put my foot on the gas the tranction control kicked it (tacomas have some noisy traction control I have found) and the low traction light and beep went off. The pavement was dry and I was not spinning.

    Any thoughts?

Have the fluid level checked. No dipstick anymore so it a bit of a process to do it correctly.

The ECU knows that you have too much traction so it kicks in before you spin or break something.

Think of it as an over-torque sensor that stops power when it knows it’s going to be too much power that it will break the tires loose if delivered.

Remember the throttle is a fly-by wire so it only outputs the maximum of power it knows the tires can take before they break loose.

If you really want to feel the power of the engine turn off traction control.
