This may be the wrong place to post but I'm not sure where else to post.

I have recently gotten some granite pieces and want to use them as "counter tops" for an outdoor grill area. I have a standard 4 burner char-broil grill that I'd like to make into an outdoor kitchen area. I fear if I make this out of wood it's going to catch on fire and propane and fire will lead to unwanted results. Below is a picture of something similar to what I'm going to build for an idea of what I'm thinking.

the only place that really gets hot is around the upper edge by the grill. but yes use the metal framing studs and hardi backer and it should be good to go.

Just some dumb regular crap everyone else has
Here's what I built. I wanted something that we could use when it rains, or shines. It's a little bigger than I need, but my wife likes it. I recently put in some solar LED lights so we could use it at night. Works awesome, and keeps the Weber out of the elements. Lots of options to add things to the inside in the future if we want.

My wife and I decided it was time to upgrade our back yard. She wants to feel like we are in Hawaii year round. We are going with Arizona Gold flagstone and lava rock for the walls. My part in this is a Santa Maria Grill. I ordered one of the best. It's about 6 weeks out so I will have to wait a while until it's installed. Yes it cost way more than a BBQ should cost.

Well a cinder block stand will have to do for now. Here is where it will sit until the patio get redone.

I had to break it in at least.

Thanks, the guys started the stand. They will fill all the voids with cement then cover it in flagstone to match the patio. It will have about 18" on each side for working space.

Asking me? No the box is a foot deep and you can open or close the dampers as needed. Unless it's crazy windy in which case I wouldn't be out there cooking anyway.

I mostly use dried coastal red oak which doesn't spark or pop very much at all. I'm going to be cooking some cow and chicken on Sunday.

Thanks for the info. I am thinking about building a smaller version over the winter.

Oh here is a better picture with grass. I also made an aluminum set of covers to keep the rain and critters out.

I have pics of cooked stuff in the BBQ and smokers thread.
