I've been lusting after a gen 1 Tacoma for nearly 20 years....well I have one now!
She's a 2001 2dr Xtracab PreRunner 2WD SB and is pretty straight for her age and milage. She was originally titled in FL and twice titled in GA. I'm the fourth owner by that account.
She has 213,000 miles on her. I feel like I got a fair price. I'm taking her to http://accgarage.com/ down in Atlanta for a full bumper-to-bumper inspection at the end of the month.
I'm hoping she has a lot of life left in her. She seems to run and drive great so hopefully I don't have to dump a ton of money into her right of the bat to feel comfortable driving her around the house.
My end goal is safety, reliability, utility and function. She was well taken care of cosmetically, so I'm already really happy in that department.
That said, I'd love to get her in a condition to where I'd have no qualms doing road trips across country.
Her CARFAX is clean and the only thing I'm disappointed with is there are no maintenance records going back 18 years.
Anyone have any ideas about what I can expect the bumper-to-bumper inspection to reveal?
I'm talking high dollar items....not just basic service items.
Also, I'm prepared to have a new/remanufactured engine and driveline replaced if needed right away....so any suggestions on companies that are the cream of the crop in that type of thing?

Definitely have them take a look at the lower ball joints. Certain years of the first gens had issues with the ball joint bolts failing which results in the tire getting jammed into the fender and can cause bad crashes if it happens at highway speed. I just replaced mine after 200k+ miles and the joint itself had about 1/4" of vertical play

Since your having it inspected in Atlanta, are we say to assume it’s a southern truck? If it’s spent any time in the salt states or come from the coast, give that frame a good check
